343i increased the range and accuracy of the Assault Rifle. Great. That’s fine… except there’s currently a very empty space in Halo’s weapons list for shorter-ranged automatic weapons that could very easily be filled by either existing and/or new weapons. Frankly, I’m lost as to why there is literally not a single weapon in Infinite that fits within this particular gap (the only possible option, the Needler being too unconventional to really fill any of that void as much as I love the bugger.) Currently, we’ve got a longer-ranged, more accurate AR as well as the return of a classic-style BR. There’s also the Pulse Carbine, Stalker Rifle and Commando all intended to function at a very similar range with very similar goals. Even the Shock Rifle and Skewer step one foot into these roles. Why is there no love for closer-ranged, rapid fire combat that we’ve had in every previous Halo title?
Surely, the Banished would be perfect for the return of the Brute Spiker. The legacy Plasma Rifle had no reason to go. What happened to the SMG? Where’s the LMG (AKA SAW)? Hell, some Sentinel weapon could have replaced the Suppressor (such as Halo 2’s Sentinel Pulse Beam).
Why do you think there are currently no weapons to fill the typically SMG or classic AR role?
Does not including such a weapon leave the weapon variety a little short? What impact does it have on Infinite’s sandbox overall?
What weapon would you add to Infinite, new or otherwise, to fill this much needed role? Would you make any changes to the weapon to suit Infinite’s gameplay?
And completely unrelated, does anyone know what happened to that Forerunner-esque handgun that received its own toy, exists within the files but never made it to the final game?
