Where are assassinations and do you miss them?

Yes, I do miss being able to trip somebody over, put a plasma grenade on their head and shot put them across the map.

I’ve had opponents wait until the animation completed before gunning me down. It’s amazing.

Not sure why it would be an issue?

At this point, it doesn’t really matter to me knowing this game has way too many issues, and a lot of it is due to the changes 343 made for their own benefit.

Whether they added them to the game or sell them through the shop. It’s not going to improve how broken this game is.

I really liked assassinations and felt they added a cool dynamic to the game that made the kill extra satisfying, grounded the game in a more gritty and aggressive combat loop and made theatre mode that much better.

Having said that, the combat loop in Infinite is very fast and TTK is rapid so I’m not sure that extended animation sequences will really fit. I like them. I want to see them with the enhanced graphical fidelity and character rigging Infinite offers, but I can see them getting in the way too.

I’ve seen the same video where the Dev says that which is complete BS. Having played a ton of Reach, 4, and 5, assassinations would happen almost every single game I’ve played by myself and other players.

To top it off, since 343 wants to embrace the F2P model since many other games use the same formula, these other games (COD, Apex, many others) has assassinations that are very popular with the community. Popular enough for there to be loads of assassination montages across Youtube/Facebook etc.

Just a comment by a Dev that had no other excuse other than they likely didn’t have enough time to put them in.

Assassinations were always a fun little addition that you could do if you wanted when you had those rare instances when you found yourself coming right on the back of someone with them having no way of knowing. They weren’t some important must-have mechanic, but it did add a little bit of flavor that people would enjoy and would sometimes do it even when they knew it could get them killed. I knew if that if I ended up at someone’s back, 7 out of 10 I would go for the assassination with the other 3 being if I could obviously get a bunch more kills if I don’t waste time or if there’s an objective needing to be taken.

At the moment assassinations definitely aren’t on the top of my list of things to see back in Infinite when there’s so much else that could be worked on instead, but I would at least be pleasantly surprised to see them again if they do make a reappearance later down the line. Just some more stylish teabagging.

Short answers? 1. Gone (for now) 2. Not really

In PvE, Assassinations are fun, cool-factor eye candy that are sometimes worthwhile if you’re not being borne down on by too many enemies at once. In PvP, they’re showing off and “dunking” on somebody at the cost of sticking yourself in a needless, vulnerable animation. Neither of those is bad, but in both situations the more economical and strategic thing to do is a beatdown, which deals the same amount of kill as an assassination without the downside.

Personally, I always thought Assassinations were fun to observe a few times each when a new game came out, and then were best to ignore in favor of beatdowns at least 80% of the time.

I think 343 said they’d bring them into Infinite eventually, and considering their monetization potential I don’t doubt that they will. But I don’t miss em much, myself.

I wouldn’t complain if they never returned. I turned them off in Halo 5 because you get stuck in an animation.

I think they’re in the game, I thought I remember reading somewhere that they’re currently disabled for stability reasons?

Don’t quote me on that.

Personally hate them, they lock me in an animation and get me killed more often than anything else.

Well gears 5 did it and cod has it. so it’ll be interesting to see if they do it with I finite. Though gears 5 did have some basic executions before adding ones to the shop

I always turned them off immediately, but I recognize that they are an important part of Halo. They never should have been removed

They were fun but I don’t miss it.

Would like it to be a Campaign mechanic though, where backsmacking with Thruster Camo will perform an assassination and refreshes 1 stock of Thruster.

Don’t miss them. Good riddance.

No.
All they did was slow the game down and got you killed…

I enjoyed seeing them play out once to see what they were like, but I rarely used them. In the end, I picked the one that made you spin around to slice the neck of the victim, so it at least made you slighter harder to hit during the long winded animation.

I mean we know they initially had no intention to make across core compatibility so they could resell us the same colors multiple times over so we could have that specific shade of red for each armor. And all those customizations attachments.

Trust me they will most definitely make assassinations part of their monetization process. Anything they could monetize they will. But don’t worry pretty soon your going to get a new shade of green for your AI… This one is going to have a Greener outline. They are going to take the color green to a whole new level.

I like your idea… should be some risk / reward involved.

I don’t miss them. I don’t want to make myself an easy target for several seconds.

I low key miss assassinations, super enjoyed them and got them off alot without being killed or having them yoinked and when they were yoinked it was mostly accidental and if I was killed it was my own judgment error. Lot of other people complain it just got you killed but with my exp you just have to know when to do them and not do them when there are 3+ bunched up 🤷. I hope they return sooner rather than later (the tactical event anyone??) and for the people who dont like them to have a option to turn them off.

Honestly liked the H:R and H4 over H5 as in there you only could use one and seemed more cartoony though there was some diamonds in the rough.

Assassinations do need to make a comeback. However, I believe that there should be a change.

A new weapon should be added - “CQC Knife”, which is a weapon that unlocks assassinations. This way those players that are all “I don’t like assassinations because they made me sit still too long and let his friend kill me all because I accidentally held the melee-button too long” can still get what they want.

A melee-weapon which has the added perk of making assassinations happen when striking from behind.

AND HERE IS THE CATCH

There are multiple assassination weapons so players can still get multi-weapon assassinations.
“CQC Knife” for classic Assassinations.
“Curveblade” for Energy-Sword type Assassinations
“Gravity Mallet” for brutal assassinations, basically a small single-handed Gravity Hammer.
