Before the game was released, we were shown the Locus and Deadeye helmet skins as pre-order bonuses. And that’s what we were told they were-- just skins, which implied that we would be able to unlock default helmets in-game. But as of almost 3 months after release, it seems to be that these two pre-order bonuses were not just skins. They were the only way to access the helmets.
Then the KOTH app was released and allowed access to the Locus helmet. However, this is a bit annoying for those who lack an iPhone or Android, such as myself. However, the Deadeye helmet is still exclusive for those who were lucky enough to order from Best Buy.
I’m quoting this from an earlier bulletin:

This statement made me especially happy because I’m… well, a completionist. I would like to see when we can unlock the Locus and the Deadeye in-game. The Locus helmet concerns me especially, since I don’t have an iPhone/Android and can’t participate in the KOTH app. But when will we be able to unlock the defaults for these two helmets?
Hopefully never. They should stay exclusive to the lucky few. Mind you, if they release them with Halo 5 on the horizon I probably wouldn’t care by then.

While I don’t have any of the special pre-order helmets/skins, I feel they should remain exclusive. I like seeing unique armors/skins in game; the rarer, the cooler imo.
My only regret will be never having the skinned Light Rifle. That thing is beautiful.
or maybe they will do what final fantasy xiii2 did and wait 4 months and make all the preorders a dlc that u would have to pay for id like it like that

Well, mine too. at least for now.
At a guess, i would say its not to far off. All of the avatar pre-order goodies were released on the market place this week. (Cryo tube, FOTUS armor, Crawler …)
So I’m guessing that since all the package perks are being released, its not unreasionable to think that the pre-order perks will be released as well.
Until then I’ll keep my Locus get up until XBL becomes flooded with them.
If they did that, then that’ll just be a kick in the balls to everyone who pre-ordered the limited editions. Their armour is the only exclusive thing they have to everyone who has a normal version.
I think it’s absolute crud that I get the limited edition and get 1 of the dumpiest looking helmets in the game, and somebody per-orders from somewhere else and gets a sweet looking helmet.
Of course, I was always somewhat envious of those in reach with the flaming helmet and the officer elite.
I’ll be at least happy with my BR skin.

Oh, and (the ugly helmet being scanner) hazop is a noob helmet and its stinking ugly.

Didn’t the Limited edition come with Scanner and Strider helmets and the Recruit armor?
Then depending on where you pre-ordered from you received those bonuses as well.
Who knows what they will end up doing in the end. I was only speculating based on what has been released so far.

I doubt they will release the Fotus, be kind of foolish… least anyways When Gears had ppl whine about the Pre-ordered stuff they re-released everything in a differant color but the LE/360 extras. I can see it being done, but to release everything, no even though I didn’t buy the LE or 360 LE. Got my Gears 360, no need for another.
I wouldn’t mind if the helmets stayed exclusive for the people who pre-ordered the game most of them aren’t exactly all that great-looking, especially the unicorn one (forgot what it was called…) and locus (sorry!) but I love the strider helmet The only one that captures my attention!
