Probably a year or so after the next Xbox’s release. So expect it to be gone by 2015ish.

As The Little Moa said, not until the 360’s Xbox LIVE service is shut down. This won’t happen until atleast a year or two after the next generation console is in service. There will be people playing 360 after the new console’s release, but when the number becomes small enough, Microsoft will issue the order. Don’t worry, Halo 3, Reach, Wars, ODST Halo 4, they’ll be safe for quite a few more years to come.

Hopefully never. I am playing Reach at the moment but I would like to go back to Halo 3 eventually.
Why would you want halo 3 shut down? Its the last great Halo multiplayer left because Reach is terribad.

… 343i can’t do anything unless they purposely trash the game to get people off it. Microsoft is the one who shuts down servers, and they don’t shut down one server. They shut them all down. To shut Halo 3 down, they would have to shut down the entire 360’s Live support, which would shut down every CoD game, Halo game, GoW game, everything on the 360. And this won’t happen until a few years after the next generation console is out. Not until the 360’s population drops a lot, will they start considering shutting it down.

Just to say, a game company can shut their own servers down, EA I believe are shutting down servers of some old games that barely get played any more to improve the service on their new games, however, when I say barely played, I mean literally 100 people a day, Halo 3 was still hitting 20k players at peak times, 7-10k at normal times, it won’t be going any where any time soon.
Halo 3 can’t die until terrible reach does. As much as I hate Reach it’s keeping Halo 3 alive. I believe Halo 3’s server is tethered to Reach’s so if they wanna kill Halo 3 well … Halo 3 is going to take Reach with it.
We still got at least 4 years left.

Oh god. Shut down the worst game or keep alive the best…Tough choice.

Probably when 360 live gets shut down, which won’t happen. Remember when Halo 2 got shut down, all original. Xbox games for LIVE got shut down.
If the Marathon Durandal servers are still up then im pretty sure that the halo 3 servers wont be shut down for a very long time

He’s right. If Bungie can help it, the servers will never be shut down.
Bungie really has some great people.
It wont be shut down until there’s a new console that has been out for a good while.
It’s going to be around for a few more years. Just look at CoD, WaW is still up, and that game was HORRIBLE!! But they still have their servers up, and the game came out the same year as H3. So even if H4 is released, H3 will still be here.
