I don’t know how long it has been since Infinite’s launch, but when will 343 remember to fix the STILL on-going issues that season 8 was left with? We still don’t have a fix for the Elites and Flood in ODST Firefight, we don’t have any news about the next update for MCC, we don’t have anything for Halo 2 and 4 to be added to the CGB for MCC. Is it because Infinite is in such a low-content mess that they’re too busy adding minor fixes or what?
judging from what information is available:
- the MCC team only really got back to work on the 13th. they’re likely working on updates behind the scenes, but I wouldn’t expect much till next month or March at the latest.
- the ODST update was nowhere near ready to launch during Season 8 (it was more or less just a preview since it was missing a ton of features), so it’s kind of ambiguous as to when it will launch officially any time soon.
- Infinite has been in bad shape since December; 343 Marketing is in full damage control and is likely staying the course with their previous deemphasizing of MCC in a bid to try and salvage it’s disastrously mediocre launch. as such, their likely won’t be any news on MCC updates, even though they are likely to be getting worked on. some folks think this might lead to more Seasons, but I think that’s just wishful thinking.
Infinite is in worse shape from when it came out: they need to stop cash-cowing the store so much-it’s going to ruin their game. Not enough weapons in the sandbox, not enough equipment; makes you wonder why the Repulser isn’t available in the campaign; terrible sync… basically, not enough work has been followed through in this game.
I highly doubt they just stopped working on all that stuff. When it’s all ready, we’ll likely get a release date.
I think when Infinite starts to seriously falter in popularity, as in 1-3 years, MCC will start getting updated again. 343 is clearly not making good on any of their promises for Infinite, and this will cost them dearly in the long run. MCC is being used as a safety net, Infinite will die after about 3 years as Halo 5 did, MCC will rise in popularity again, 343 will update it here and there until Halo 7 comes along.
This is what I believe is 343’s backup plan for when things start to go south.
It’ll be interesting to see if history repeats itself.
They’ve confirmed support through 2022, I don’t see where this belief that updates have stopped is coming from. Come 2023 we will see if support drops, but we still have plenty of time for bug fixes and flood fire fight. It also helps that the teams working on both games are mostly different. Saber Interactive and 343 work closely together to support the MCC. I do know that Saber is credited in Infinite, but the extent to what they developed and if they continue to support Infinite is yet to be confirmed. I’m willing to wager that MCC probably shares very little development resources with Infinite.
Oh no, I’m fully aware of the updates throughout 2022, what I’m saying is 343 will backpedal that statement and continue to update MCC in say 2025 or 2026 when Infinite begins to flop, hard.
