I think we’ve all been at that one wonderful moment in our Halo 5 career: the much dreaded and loathed Mongoose Destroyer. Aside from the equally-bothersome Spartan Charge, this commendation is hands-down the most frustrating in the entire game. Heck, the Arena Mastery (which awards Magnum Opus) seems like a total breeze compared to this wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing monstrosity! And don’t even get me started on some of the Spartan Company commendations…<em>shudders</em>
A few nights ago, I was making great progress on racking up the kills in Warzone Turbo and more recently, Action Sack has help alleviate the pressure with Mongoose Sumo and Prop Hunt (which is a surprisingly good method) and I could almost taste awards and the sweet “Great Wheel” emblem. But as my friends and I were going through this one session of Prop Hunt, the whole game crashed - robbing me of that 1 kill I earned - and essentially prevented me from completing the commendation and the Vehicle Mastery. It’s almost as if the game is silently taunting and mocking me from the shadows. I would say that I was salty, but I felt more sour than anything.
I mean, “salty” is a food term that can also be used to describe emotion, right? So why not use “sweet”, “sour”, and “bitter” in the same fashion?Jump ahead for a bit, and we once again took to Action Sack to tackle it once more as Warzone would prove more troublesome in its worth (despite my generous stock of Arclights). But the game kept taunting me from the events before. We blew all of our time in the playlist and we had everything BUT Mongoose Sumo or Prop Hunt. It drove me nigh-insane. Looks like I’ll have to try again another day as I missed my intended target of completion (which was supposed to be near the end of May).
Do you remember the struggles of tackling this dreaded commendation? How long did it take you to complete it yourself? Which playlist seemed most helpful to you?

I mean… until recently, I’m pretty sure ‘salty’ was used pretty infrequently as a emotional descriptor. You’d see sweet, sour, and bitter used much more often. Granted, the meaning has apparently been around since 1983, but, again, it wasn’t very common compared to calling someone bitter, sweet, or sour.
Anyway…
BTB is pretty great for Mongoose/Gungoose kills.
I only need two more mongoose
I completed it like a month ago.
It is difficult because a few people use them, and if you’re lucky enought to find a brave spartan in a gungoose, it’s easier to kill him rather than destroy the vehicle. Sometimes, if you have a spartan laser or a railgun, you ended up killing the driver before the mongoose explode.
Warzone Assault is a good playlist to find mongoose, however now it takes a bit to find a match.

I have been there before, they were much more common earlier in Halo 5’s lifespan. I heard if you can get a solider to hijack your mongoose you could kill him and get the medal.
I know the feeling as well as if the game seems to be taunting you. For me, I need immortals the I will reach 100% but as rounds get closer and closer to the end the enemy team targets me or a teammate will betray me or whatever. Its getting frustrating but perhaps I could achieve it if I had a team.
Took forever to get done, finished it by playing mongoose sumo, btb and wz. I honestly regret not playing breakout earlier because now I have immortals and whatever the bifecta/trifecta medals are to get done. But shotguns… Shotguns everywhere.
I still have 21 to go. I have gotten the majority of them in big team battle. They come fairly often if you get big team ctf. Get a hydra/laser/banshee and your good as gold.
It’s weird that salty got tagged as spoiler and I hate that a tank blast only destroys mongooses some of the time.
I completed it in WZ. Very difficult, great emblem.
WZ Assualt can help with the comms since its a bit slower than regular WZ
That commendation can go to hell. When I finally accomplished it I was so relieved. BTB was definitely the best place where I got a lot of them knocked out. The worst part about that commendation is half the time you destroy the mongoose it only grants you a Spartan kill and not a vehicle destroyed. So glad I’m done with it!
I personally don’t even pay attention to commendations, I just happen to complete them as I play. Though, it’s been so long and I only have a few left (excluding mongeese muahaha) I should just buckle up and knock em’ out.

Makes complete sense. I don’t know about you but people actually use sour, bitter, and sweet to convey emotion quite frequently around here lol
I have NEVER got Mongoose Sumo despite playing several dozen Action Sack games…65 left… (15 for Level 4 and 50, I imagine, for Level 5).
