I remember it was the first status update, when 343 told us about the radar issue, and that they would update it to 23m. Now… it’s been 3 month since the release, the majority of the population has gone for good, I’m just coming a few times because even tho this situation is awful I still have hope.
Since it seems you are working on a lot of new feature and don’t have time to fix what needs to be fixed, here some help:
int radarRange = 25; // Because 23 is just as stupid as it sounds
then:
git checkout production # No need to test, it was already tested in H1, H2, H3, H4, Reach (No, H5 one wasn't tested)
git commit -m "very important fix"
git push
Also, if you need any other fixes you can PM me. Won’t tell anyone

They decided that 18 is good enough for normal modes and they’ll extend it for BTB to make it more useful in those.
All you have to do is pay better attention to you’re surroundings and you won’t get screwed over as much. Like most shooters have taught people since Doom and Quake 1 played online. If you stupidly bum rush every where you should be punished.

I really wonder if the awful short-range radar was even playtested. A good radar is crucial to Halo.

I get a ton out of it in the 4 vs 4 matches. You guys just got waaaay too comfortable and coddled with it doing all the work for you from other games and are now having issues adjusting to the change.
BTB was the only place where I really didn’t use it all that much unless I was trying to ambush people I knew who would run past me to push forward. Because most of the time you’ll see the enemy before they get close enough to show up on the motion tracker.,
The radar adds a fun layer of strategy that’s been part of Halo from the start.

Still does that just fine in Halo Infinite as well though. You just have to actually do more of the work instead of letting the motion tracker do most of it for you is all.
If you don’t like it, that’s where the Master Chief Collection comes in. They have it set to just the way you like it in case you can’t adjust to the way they want it in Halo Infinite.
It doesn’t work “fine” in infinite. That’s why so many people are complaining. I barely ever use the crouch anymore because the radar is so small. You can just sprint up behind someone and kill them without effort. Boring and unchallenging.

It does work just fine, I get tons of use out of it on the smaller maps. The people complaining about the game only complain because the motion tracker coddled them by doing all the work by allowing them to see everyone within a 5 mile radius of the player so they wouldn’t have to learn how to do it themselves lol.
This is the actual distance of the motion tracker currently:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2684608245
It also extends past the 18 meter length too. When people are active the outer circle of the motion tracker will highlight past the 18 meter mark where enemies players are active.
Most problems with the new motion tracker would be solved by learning how to look around more often and stop being so wreckless…
Complaining about how it is in infinite is nothing short of an excuse to try and hide your shortcomings…
I don’t want it to be competitive level, even though it would probably force people to actually git gud and improve themselves instead of keeping themselves eternally stunted growth wise. This is a very solid middle ground if you actually take a second to figure it out. There is plenty of room in the smaller maps to make really good use out of it, unlike the lies spewed by people claiming it to be “useless”. Which it’s far from.
I’m sure if customs come around they’ll allow you to increase it there as well. But until then the only places you get larger motion tracker is BTB, or on the Master Chief Collection games. Here, they want to keep it 18 for the smaller style maps so people will have to learn to rely on it less and more on self awareness and paying attention to their surroundings.

You know I can tell you’re lying simply because you can’t react to a sprinter 4 feet away from you and around a wall cause the motion trackers so short ranged

It’s probably gonna get pushed to season 2 to add fluff to that thing.
Honestly I gave up on this game. It’s not a live service it’s just something they stung together and attached a store to it.
At this point maybe it’s best to just forget Halo Infinite.
But 343 has fully lost trust and credibility.
They are the we just need more time company…
10 years from now they will announce Halo infinite has Co op campaign lol

Try telling that to the comp scene lmao.

No, the motion tracker isn’t fine, because an enemy player sprinting up from behind for a back smack gives you less time to react that it takes to turn around using a controller, unless you have your sensitivity jacked up really high.

Nope, hard disagree with you on that one. This radar is junk.

That’s your fault for not keeping tabs on you’re flank. Even then there’s still plenty of time to react, you’re just slow.
Another player that’s been coddled in previous halo games from a motion tracker doing all the work for him, no doubt.

Maybe, but the get good argument is flawed. You want your player base to enjoy the game regardless of their skill level, you’ll have a healthy game. The radar is there to help you. You don’t have to use it and you shouldn’t be judged if you do. But this radar is kinda useless due to its size vs the speed in which a enemy can reach you for an engagement.

Plenty of games out there play just fine with out a radar or motion tracker complete, even in a social setting. Halo Infinite can do just just as easily. They can even keep the 18 meter one which is still highly useful when you actually adjust to it.
All you got to do is put a little more work on your end. As well as think a little bit more as well. You’ll be just fine when you adjust to the way 343i wants you to play. =]
It is only useful in very particular situations, namely when there is an enemy quite close by yet blocked from your line of site still, such as by a wall, floor, or sharp corner.
In general only look at it if you are purposefully positioning yourself behind one of these obstacles with the intent of setting an ambush- usually when your team has map control or you are covering the team’s flank.
Honestly, at this stage in the game they may as well remove it. Radar was actually useful in other Halo games, but now with the emphasis on hyper-mobility and flying around the map, radar is basically useless. Plus, when you play comp you don’t get radar. So switching back and forth from no radar to radar is inconsistent and annoying.
