When playing Halo Infinite on a base Xbox One with an Xbox Series X controller my aim is worse than if I were using an Xbox One controller, I have proof

Hello, I play Halo Infinite on the base Xbox One console that first came out in 2013, but I use the Xbox Series X controller. Now when I first started playing the Halo Infinite multiplayer beta I thought the aiming was terrible, it was so hard to put the aiming reticle on the other players, I mean the aiming felt broken! But I kept playing everyday and indeed my aiming got to the point where my average accuracy in matches was between 35% to 42%. But after playing for a few weeks, I suddenly realized the aiming still didn’t quite feel right, like it still felt a little wonky when aiming, didn’t feel nice and tight, felt a little wonky to me.

That’s when I decided to pull my Xbox One controller out of storage and decided to try it out and see if there was a difference between the Xbox One controller or the Series X controller when playing Halo Infinite on my base Xbox One. Now guess what, the aiming on the Xbox One controller felt perfect right off the bat! It didn’t feel wonky at all, it felt perfect. And I have the evidence to prove it. Now even with the Xbox One controller my accuracy in matches is still on average between 35 to 42% but I can score higher in the weapon drills with the Xbox One controller than the Series X controller.

So, there are three weapon drills for the VK78 Commando rifle, in the second drill I can score 13,375 using the Xbox One controller, (look at the attachments I provided a screenshot of the highest score that I can only get with the Xbox One controller, well it says new users cannot upload photos, oh well just take my word for it then) but the highest score I ever got using the Xbox Series X controller is 12,250. And listen, I will play for a couples of hours with the Xbox One controller and with it the aiming feels perfect, then I will switch over to the Series X controller and I’m telling you there’s something wrong with it, it feels a littler harder to hit people, it doesn’t feel perfect at all, feels kinda wonky when trying to aim at people, I’m telling you there’s a difference, it’s subtle but there’s a difference between the two controllers.

And this is only with Halo Infinite I was playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019) on my base Xbox One with the Series X controller and the aiming felt perfect as far as I could tell. I’m telling you there is something wrong with Halo Infinite. I mean I have spent many hours now over the last several days playing that same weapon drill for the VK70 Commando rifle and I cannot score any higher than 12,250 with the Xbox Series X controller but I can score over 13,000 with the Xbox One controller. But there shouldn’t be a difference between the two controllers so I’m totally confused, this has to be an optimization issue, right?

Please I’m not making any of this up, I really want to get this fixed, this is actually irritating me because I never thought there would ever be a difference using the Series X controller with the Xbox One, but apparently there is (at least with Halo Infinite).

This is actually a copy and paste of what I sent to the customer support for Halo Infinite and they just told me to post it here in the forums. Help me this is driving me nuts!!!

Infinites aim is different with every controller. I’ve tried Xbox One, Series X and Scuf on Infinite and each one is completely different. Since I play on steam I’ve even tried a PS4 Duel Shock controller and unfortunately the PS4 controller works better on Halo then the Xbox controllers do. Which is just sad.

So until today been playing Infinite on the original xbox one just got the series X today and played and did significantly better thinking maybe just got lucky or does it really make that much of difference in gameplay?

Probably an improvement due to the increase in frames per second and possibly faster processing on the XSX. I experienced the same initially but expect it to level off once you have become more accustomed and used to the new console (plus the game will start matching you with better players if your gaming skill has improved so essentially you’ll end up being back to square one but slightly higher up the hierarchy once it balances out).

Thanks for the input yeah my rank last night going up fairly fast ill enjoy it while it last kd last night was well above my normal, curious how high ill get before I level off

I have the answer, I will make a post tomorrow
About it.
I am an old school gamer still on Xbox one always played Halo from the start and was so frustrated with infinite aiming as did not resemble the feel of previous Halo’s.

Out of anger and frustration and luck I found settings that give you the old Halo feel
Steady shot, let you track people and no more recticle flashing all over the screen. Good up close even if the enemy is jumping staffing or crouching.
Some of the settings don’t make sense but they work trust me. I’ll fire up my Xbox tomorrow and post the settings. It truly is a trip back to halo memory lane with the settings you will be very happy I’m sure

Look forward to checking out your settings.

I played Halo Infinite on my Xbox One S with my new Series X controller, and it felt so freaking good. I don’t know what the problem with your controller is, but for me it worked well. Maybe it’s because you played on a base Xbox One? Hmmmm.

I am having the same issue. Just got a new Series X controller and the aiming out the box was way too sensitive. I had to tweak the sensitivity but still nothing compared to the Xbox one controller.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a good 3rd party controller with paddles?

I dont know any but I bet there a lot of good ones out there. Also, have you tried turning your aim acceleration lower?

never played with the series x controllers but I could see why this is a problem. Not anything 343 could fix i think but its just how different controllers are with Halo. Some are gonna be better than others ig. I use xbox one controller and feel pretty good.

I just got an Elite II and I’m having a heck of time adjusting to it and figuring out the settings. I lowered my acceleration before realizing I should probably just adjust the tension.

First thing I did on the elite 2 was adjust the tension that should solve a lot of your issues. I tried loose and I couldn’t hold the reticle steady to save my life it was all over the place. So nice having the paddles on the back side of the controller.
