I agree with you in some ways. strafing makes a big difference. Once I considered the AR a reliable close range melee combo weapon, now its not because of the strafing. The good news is we now have better close range weapons in infinite and the ar can be the medium range weapon it was probably meant to be.
Also i would say infinites fast strafe compensates for the fact the br is no longer projectile so it feels like a similar challenge, kinda. I would actually say the BR in infinite is easier than halo 3 if you can master the awful sticky reticule along with 60fps. If anything, classic aim assist with reduced strength would make the game more challenging than the current aim assist in infinite. Something that would theoretically annoy you even more since you said you like it less challenging if im not mistaken.
Heres something paradoxical though. The more challenging smoother aim assist system that i am suggesting, will create a smaller smoother skill gap because more people will understand it better. You know that classic saying, easy to play hard to master. The best games have a small skill gap along with its high skill ceiling because then matchmaking can do a better job for everyone to have a good time.
No i wasn’t saying I want it more or less challenging. Just saying the facts of the game settings and what they entail for the community. Infinite BR is technically still projectile, but they said at the range most of our fights take place, the projectile speed is so fast that its basically hitscan. Idk how this is in BTB since I only really play ranked.
You can’t have a small skill gap and a high skill ceiling at the same time in 1 game mode though. They’re essentially the same thing. The wider the skill gap, the higher the distance goes from bottom to the top right? The smaller the skill gap, the lower the ceiling is from the bottom.
It’s harder to consistently hit a fast moving target with decent health. So thats another reason a game mode like swat has lots of players because it’s inherently easier to pick up, and I think is a great introductory playlist for a halo player because the way shields and weapons work…you need the academy for that or someone to explain everything man lol.
I’ve been playing halo for quite a long time. I’m almost 40. I love the ranked settings, but just don’t like that there’s only 1 playlist to run 4s. That really sucks. Its much more fun to just go into different playlists when one is burning you out.
As for comparing the games and how easy or hard they are from one another…it depends so much on what playlist, what settings etc. All halos for controller users…like…basically all we’re doing is figuring out how much input is really needed to stay on target with what level of aim assist we have in the game. A different phrasing of that is…trying to master how much the game helps you. Thats why usually a big suggestion for people struggling with aim aside from getting optimized settings for their stlye, is when people say “aim predominantly with your left stick” .
I knew this dude who’d always talk about apex and say how good he was at it. Which he was, and in halo he was good but felt the way you aim in halo (any of them) was easier. He would constantly say “you should play apex bro. Way more precision needed with your right stick on that game”. I tried it, definitely felt that way to me. Part of what makes halo fun is the aiming though.
Which…sucks when you consider the many threads, videos, etc talking about how bad that basic functionality feels for them in the last 2 halo games. Eventually we all adapt our settings, get used to it, or just stop playing but it just sucks that from the get go so many people say “something feels off about aiming” in this game. Like despite most players getting over 50% accuracy, it doesnt seem to change that feeling.
when i say small skill gap and a high skill ceiling, I basicallly mean there are no poor players in the game because the mechanics are easy to understand. Im not sayiin the skill gap is ACTUALLY small or non existent but a small enough skill gap that matchmaking can function properly with. Lots of games fail because their matchmaking cant support their skill gap relative to their population.
I agree, but once you learn infinites aiming, its not that much difficult than other halo’s with most weapons besides the ultra precision ones, its just a chore.
apex has little aim assist but it has a controller scheme everyone understands and that many other games use to control their aim. I think apex achieves the easy to play, hard to master for their game. If i ccould desccribe infinite it would be, ok to play but a chore to master.
see, you hit the nail on the head. the aiming is not more difficult, its just a chore, mentally taxiing to adjust aim based on reticule sizes.
Different settings don’t make the game feel good, it makes the game feel less bad. It’s been that way since the flights. Look up videos by “Critical Infinite” on Youtube. He goes in-depth about why aiming and aim assist is objectively worse in this game.
It has to do with a lot of things like lack of aim slowdown, aim magnetism, bullet magnetism, controller curves, red reticle, reticle size, fov. etc.
But 343 won’t change the aiming in this game. Because making the game feel good isn’t competitive focused. I’ve had a ticket open about this since the flights and last time I got a response they didn’t have anything to say other than them “understanding my frustration as this issue affects gameplay.”
