It will most likely be set surfing or after the events in halo escalation, we need to remember that they are drifting through space at sub light speed in 30 years I doubt they would have gotten very far. As for red team, team designations are given out before a mission such as in the start of first strike (i believe this is the right one it’s been awhile).
I would say the game will be set sometime around the events of Halo 5, so that the surviving characters of HW2 will be able to play into the larger story of Halo evolving out of both games.
Hmm. I personally lean towards the year 2534. 3 years after Halo Wars 1 mainly because i kinda think 343 Industries is going with HW 1s original plan, at least for the start of the story. I’m judging that by how similar HW 2 trailer is compared to one of the two story ideas for HW 1 sequel that was brought up a year ago. Don’t forget that Halo Wars is a seperate story in the Halo universe which means it can take place in any time. It does not have to take place and connect with Halo 4, 5 and 6. HW 2 can take place anywhere when Red team is alive too so much is possible.
In Halo Escalation for those that has not read it
In one of the stories on the last chapter SoF is shown and you see it abandoned but a Flood infection form is going from cryo tube to another.I personally believe it is after they left. It could be during the trailer when the Brute raids their ship because the Flood did survive the end of HW 1 assuming 343i is going with HW 1s original sequel plan. Some people mentioned a Flood spore is shown in HW 2 trailer. I did not see it but that could mean that they left SoF 3 years later and the Flood could have been left there, not many though and so SoF could have drifted in space for many years with only the few Flood onboard it. Just speculating.
