When did releases turn into the Beta tests?

I know there was a beta period with halo 5, but does anyone feel like that was alpha testing and now we are in the real beta of matchmaking. I’m not 100% mad nor do I think this issue is unique to Halo 5, but if they are going to do this make the game cheaper or reward players. Patches/updating it allows games to fix their problems & glitches well into their use and that is nice. Back in Halo 1 days we’d be forced to live with what made it past the beta and as such developers spent way more time polishing content. Now it seems like every game is half a game by release date.

It is almost like the option of DLC/patching has made people cool with buying unfinished games. And, this isn’t stupid small stuff like not enough maps, we didn’t even have big team battles till the first update. Again I’m not even against this but if they are going to save money by doing less testing/getting free testing by players then why should I pay as much for the game. Maybe this is just a pet peeve thing for me, but people used to be paid to test games literally trying to break them, now developers just let the costumers figure out/complain on our personal time as they reap the benefits through a patch.

I think it’s an issue in general with the gaming industry but I do not feel like Halo 5’s final release is like a beta.

i blame EA and Ubisoft

DLC out the -Yoink- and incomplete games with season passes

I base this more off the number of changes and add-ons they have already made with just this first update as well as comparing it to older games. Big Team Battles has been a release feature in matchmaking since Halo 2, yet it was now added 3 weeks after release with the patch for a bunch of glitch/exploit issues and general gamer complains. As well they are still missing features like Forge & still have many issues they already claimed they are working on for the next DLC.

I said I didn’t think this was an issue just for Halo, it is pretty much any game geared to multiplayer, I get its a nature of the beast/saves a lot of time & money but how come the consumers gain nothing. Like I pay more for games today and then half the time I gotta pay for a DLC to add a feature that was in the last game from release day.

I do think it’s a problem, but Halo 5 shipped with a decent amount of content.

It seems to be a general theme in the industry nowadays

This gen definitely has that feeling of beta releases.

BF4? BF4.

I work in an office and I’m just trying to think if any work related programs were treated like this, there is no way in hell quickbooks would sell if every time they released it there was 2 months of patches based off user complaints. If a car needed as many patches and updates after release they would do a recall.

I’m not even really against it but I thought things like reducing their testing costs at the expense of content then the price should suffer. Maybe instead of spending time making a custom skin for a pre-order bonus they could just complete the game. It’s like DLC was shown to us gamers as almost like a second coming, but then it just turned into a money making scam to -Yoink- with gamers/help developers.

its an issue across the whole indusrty nowadays

It’s simple: content creators know we will buy it if the consensus among the gaming public is that the title is “good enough” with an “adequate” amount of gameplay.

Halo 5 is good enough and serviceable as a game, but there are titles available now with more content, fewer bugs (I honestly can’t believe that there is a game save issue in 2015) with stronger communities. I don’t know… the game needed to be perfect, but I don’t think the current squad is up to the task.

The beta was better than the actual game, so…

Destiny had a one year beta.
