When did Halo Infinite start development?

To get an idea of how long this game has been in the works, does anyone know exactly how long Halo Infinite has been in development. It seems like they have only been in development for about a year now.

We don’t know for sure.
IIRC job listings and several job changes at 343 indicated that they either started (unlikely) or re-organized/re-started development sometime mid-2017.

I’m sure development began around the time H5 launched, if in a very limited form, but probably didn’t go into full swing until 2017 or a little earlier? We don’t really know.

There were halo 6 talks early during year 1 of halo 5. Stuff like promising us splitscreen and what not. So it’s been at least 3 years

Probably because their E3 announcement is almost a year old, but usually games are in development long before anything public is announced.

I assume shortly after H5 launched as Halo is a franchise they know will keep continuing. Though about a year after H5 there were some big role changes like Chris Lee replacing Josh Holmes, I’m sure that impacted development.
