When did Halo become so unfriendly?

Having always experienced the aggressive trolls and nutjobs that infest the COD community, Halo always seemed to gave a far more friendly community of players, much as I have found Destiny to be. However within a mere dozon or so Arena games I have experienced a lof of behaviour that has been very dispiriting to say the least, from trash talk abd teabagging to being messaged post game by players on my own team for being “trash” and told to stop playing Halo, and that was after we won!. Admittedly I am pretty poor at the moment but is this now typical or have I just been unlucky?

COD folks hopped on the Halo train for a bit, when BO3 comes, they’ll leave.

Haven’t played yet but sadly, it wouldn’t surprise me. Console communities turning unbearably arrogant and unfriendly are what drove me to PC gaming in the first place…

Yeh I agree, should calm down once Black Ops is out.

Aye it’s disappointing. I remember my mates and I getting hammered on Halo 3 and then having a laugh and a joke about it afterward with the opposing players. Now we’d get abuse for being ‘noobs’. Too many people who need to realise they’re not as ‘pro’ as they think.

What the above poster said about Bo3. Also, destiny isnt a competitively focused game right? Halo 5 is INTENSE. Heated competition can bring out some ugly sides of people that you wont really see elsewhere. Especially since its a team game where rank is solely dependent on Win/Loss as a whole.

These people exist in every game, I haven’t have any abuse and I’ve played hundreds of Arena games at this point.

roughly on the release of halo reach.

Which is why I don’t play with the headset on

Haven’t had any problems, i just don’t like that i can not instantly mute the enemy team… , they got on my nerves,i don’t want to hear other people talking …

I’ve only been shouted at once on Halo 5 - and that was for going lonewolf midway through a slayer match. I tried to stick with my team (strangers) at first, but because the other team was wiping us out altogether I decided to try and flank… It’s funny that the worst one on the team is always likely to shout down the mic at everyone else. Aside from that, whenever in a game of Warzone - whoever speaks is likely to be told to “shut the -Yoink- up”. Rarely do I ever hear proper teamwork and positions being called out.

It’s okay, I’ll love you all enough to level out the haters.

It’s not Halo it’s people in general. Anoninmty removes the basic consequences you face in the real world for being a tool.

Sorry to hear that broski. Destiny has a cancerous community IMO. Everyone seems pissy as of now but hopefully it’ll get smoother as time progresses.

And all the cheaters and hackers that infest the PC gaming platform will drive you right back to console gaming.

The subprime crisis of 2008 (which literally brought the global economy to its knees) has had a lasting impact on people.

Working professionals found themselves unemployed for the first time. Unemployed persons were unable to find meaningful work anywhere. Students couldn’t find jobs after graduating and were forced to move back home and live with their parents.

People have been suffering and it’s taken its toll on their attitudes and personalities.

You can’t have played much Halo 3 back in the day, Halo 3 started off fine then the community grew steadily more toxic as the dudebro MLG’sters took over, your K/D had to be over a certain ratio and you had to have a highest skill above 40 otherwise your opinion was invalid, a cottage industry grew up with people selling 50’s, then there was de-ranking to trick the tru-skill system, then there was second accounting to improve Tru-skill rank. So yeah certain elements of the Halo community have been toxic for some time.

I agree. Sometimes even during the match the “mute all” feature simply will not work. It’s insufferable. I desperately wish they had an option to mute everyone by default in the audio options like in the other Halo games.

When they decided to focus completely on esports and competitive play. I feel like Halo has had a good balance of casual and competitive play. Halo 5 is very sweaty. It just is. Its poison to solo queue for anything. Its also because its 4 v 4 so you are responsible for 25% of the score.

I hate the destiny community. You cant play with anyone unless you have super specific weapons, armors, and class builds. I play cod super casually so i dont pay attention to the community.

Halo 5 also has a garbage ranking system. Absolute garbage. So you get stuck with people who have no idea what the term fun means anymore. Win=fun for them and its awful to play with, but you’re stuck there because the ranking system only cares about wins.

Give it a while to let their dreams of esports calm down a bit so they start releasing the actual game modes everyone likes, like btb infection, ctf, oddball, etc. Right now its slayer and slayer with AI.

LOL. Back in the Halo 2 days, the post game lobby was nothing but everyone insulting each other. It was hilarious. Also, in an H2 game, you could hear the enemy team for the 5 second duration of your re-spawn. Everyone knew this, and took advantage of it to talk -Yoink- to the player just killed, usually while t-bagging them.

Don’t take it to heart, really.
