When career progression comes will we all start at level 1 or will they backtrack progress?

Basically as the title says. They have announced they are working on career progression along with the announcement of the match xp beta. This raised an issue I have been concerned about since the game launched without one. Will they make everyone start at the same point? Or will they backtrack the stats players have and apply it so they can be where they would deserve to be if the game launched with it. What do you guys think would be best? Personally I lean towards backtracking progress.

Why would it matter? Genuine question. When Halo 3 added Playlist-Specific progression ranks, everyone started at 0.

It’s an entirely meaningless “rank” that only shows how much you’ve played. It doesn’t affect anything. Why are people concerned about where they “deserve” to be?

I hope they compensate us somehow. I’ve played almost 2200 matches - it would be nice if all of the XP I’ve earned is tracked and used.

It all depends on the system they implement, too.

I was about to bring this up. When Halo 3 added the playlist progression, we all started at 0 even though we’ve had many games in already.

Halo 3 was also 15 years ago and to my understanding it was the first time a system like that was added to Halo so it is more understandable.

In the case of infinite it is something that should have been in at launch and it could be a nice thing for players that played the game a lot despite the fact it has been a less than stellar development year. I don’t think holding to a standard set 15 years ago is the way they should look if they can implement a system that rewards the dedication of fans. Plus with the amount of data they probably have stored on players it shouldn’t be too hard to calculate the xp they should have and reward it.

Also the rank isn’t meaningless, it shows how much you played like you said which could mean a lot to players as they like to show their dedication with high ranks. Inheritor, Halo 4’s prestiges, and SR 152 were all cool things to strive for and it is something that gets noticed., not by all but by some. It rewards peoples time which is why being where they deserve to be is important. Also if rewards get tied to it then it will feel bad to grind from the beginning when you know you should be farther.

On the flip side though, if it doesn’t matter to you then why not let players be where they deserve to be? What benefit is there to making everyone start at rank 0? Why not just let people get their “deserved” rank and let them be happy since it isn’t a system that really punishes anyone it just rewards them for what they put in.

If there’s no easy way for them to provide career XP for our previous games before it eventually goes live, I hope they at least pursue a “brute force” solution of some kind.

Something like granting career xp for every completed BP level and Ultimate item in a player’s inventory. Even XP for past medals too.

If career progression launches and everyone starts at 0 it will be a galactic sized L

XP is most likely going to end up being based on score/medals or some variant of that. Any possible system I can think of that they would implement should be compatible with our previous stats. If they have stats that the plasma pistol m1 isn’t being used then they definitely have usable stats for xp. The only reason not to do it is they want people to spend the time regrinding but I find that a bit disrespectful given the time investment some players may have already

I also just know it is the kind of thing that would upset more people, its an easy win to find a way to give credit, maybe even cap it if they want but still something over nothing.

Everyone was at zero when MCC’s progression system came out so it will probly be the same.

Nobody collected XP before that either though - if I remember correctly

Once they have finalised their scoring system it would be very easy for them to at least acknowledge games and wins.

They have those career stats for everyone.

They probably won’t be able to go back through and work out the top 50% and MVP for every game. That data has probably been jettisoned. But they do have career medals - if that ends up being a factor.

But I’m sure those people who invest in XP ranks will at least be happy to have their efforts acknowledged so far.

You are wrong about that, lol

They should start at Level 1. It would help with the feeling of a fresh start. They should track playtime from year one though, and give some exclusive rewards for sticking with the games rough first year.

I hope we all start at max level. Instead of gaining XP we lose XP until we hit level 0. Make it statement about losing out on life through investing way too much time into video games.
Expectation subverted.

I just today thought to myself, I wonder if Halo Infinite ever added a career progression system since I stopped playing in February. Turns out, nope!
