The aiming system in MCC is literally just the aim system from each game. That’s why it feels good and just like you remember. Because it is the aim system you used originally.
They just need to give us back the radius around targets that allows for finer control. That’s what’s changed. We no longer have that radius. They’ve reduced it to where you only have finer aiming when you’re already on target. So the big issue is in order to compete at higher levels you need to have faster aim response which means more sensitive controls and higher look acceleration. The look acceleration on console is capped, but not on PC with mouse and keyboard. This does create a difference in ability to quickly and accurately respond to anyone else in the game. Having the fine-tune radius on mouse and keyboard might be an issue, but considering that it’s always been a key feature in all previous titles I just don’t understand why this has been changed. Because the radius is gone now, it means that anyone that doesn’t have really good fine tuned control like what you can get much easier with m&k will snap on to the target and then fly right off because they’re trying to use higher sensitivity settings to be able to react quicker. This is the issues I’ve been experiencing ever since the first flights.

So the general issues with the aiming system in infinite are as follows:
• the radius around enemy targets has been removed and aim assist only engages once you’re already on target.
• sometimes while jumping aim assist can disengage.
• aim assist only engages when the system registers inputs from movement or aiming sticks.
All of these issues combined together kind of create this cumulative terrible feeling of constantly fighting the aim assist system. You’re trying to get on target and the crosshairs only sticks once you are on target, but if you’re using any high sensitivity settings you can easily flick right back off of the target or bypass them completely if you’re trying to aim for the smallest portion of the target which is their head.

I have read that those changes were made in Infinite but I don’t feel like it is impacting me that much. I will admit though, with the new outlines, no player collision, gametypes being changed, and all of that stuff. I had to kind of “relearn” Halo Infinite a little bit in the beginning. So maybe I just adapted to Infinite’s aiming and now I don’t really notice it?
That’s okay. Some people adapted to 5’s aiming as well. Sadly, I was not one of those people but now that game patches are becoming more of industry standard than it was back in 2015, aiming might finally get the patch it needs to make the game feel better.

I use modern aiming in MCC, I actually don’t like the classic controls.
I think the insane strafe acceleration in this game is a huge part of why aiming feels so bad too. I’m pretty sure the servers are can’t keep up with it sometimes and just blank out your shots

In tandem with tweaks to the aiming, I think the recoil should be reevaluated - particularly on the Assault Rifle. There’s no reason that holding down the trigger should be more accurate than feathering it.
I had to change my deadzones and sensitivity settings more for this game than any other game probably ever, but I finally found something that feels right…mostly

I have the settings I have for my controller but I swear as soon as I crack somebodies shields it’s like the aim just completely breaks

Pretty sure they designed it that way on purpose

I was playing tonight and thinking about this thread. I notice some games I get good aim assist and other games I don’t.
Anyone else ever notice this?

Not really. I have my left stick deadzone set to zero to losing aim assist isn’t something that happens frequently. My constant issue is the lack of slowdown radius around opponents causing my aim to fly off with the lightest touch of the right stick. Finishing one-shot opponents is also a problem, shoot them square in the head 3+ times after shields pop and they just won’t go down.

I kind of feel like they would mess it up even more if they messed with it. I have my settings functional for now and don’t want 343 to break it.
It’s very inconsistent. A few days ago I had one of the best games I’ve had in Halo to date. I just can’t seem to replicate that level of consistency.

Couldn’t that just be different network latency experiences?
(Is that btw. visible somewhere, or is such precious information today just completely gone to not concern the user?

In MCC, there are two settings that affect how the controller sensitivity feels.
One of those settings happens to be the modern aiming preset. It’s a modified sensitivity curve designed to replicate the feeling of the later titles like H2A, Reach and 4.
This was done, mainly, because the classic titles weren’t designed to be played with Xbox One controllers, so the deadzones were all messed up. Modern aiming fixes that.

It’s an aiming system they made for MCC. You can choose from classic or modern.
