When can we expect improvements to the aiming?

It’s been a few months and we’ve received a decent amount of updates on features like forge and co-op. However, something that has been SERIOUSLY bothering me about this game IS THE AIMING.

It just isn’t as good as MCC’s and that shouldn’t be the case. It feels as though I’m fighting the game to keep the crosshair on the target. I end up having to use the left stick more because of how uncomfortable it feels to move the right stick.

Please tell me some good news. Anything. Toss Hyper a bone here. Just tell me it’s on a list somewhere and hasn’t been forgotten. I just simply want to fight the people shooting at me and not my controller.

So after feeling the same way i changed my settings to make it feel more like classic Halo and here is what i found. (Its due to the default controls feeling like crap)

Many others posted comments below adding more info to help too. Hope this helps because to me Infinite has the best mechanics in the series.

I already have the aiming set up how I want it. The issue is the aiming mechanics themselves. Tracking feels super weird and inconsistent.

It just feels awful. Trust me, I’ve had my fill of tickering around with the aiming settings for a lifetime.

Hmmm. I have a Scuf and the right stick is higher and i will say that helps with aiming. Have you tried those caps to increase the height. I didn’t realize just how much it would help before i got it. Sadly thats all the advice i have, wish i could help more.

I had a Elite series 2 that worked perfectly for about 7 months before the LB stopped working consistently.

I have jump bound to LB so I had to switch back to the regular controller. Which surprising worked better. I had to set both axial and radial to 10 because drift was that bad.

On the regular one I have them set to 3.5. Thanks for trying to help out though. Just need some traction so the devs can see this.

The way aim assist works in infinite has been fundamentally changed from previous games. This video covers the changes in depth.

Don’t expect this to ever get fixed, no one is really talking about it/343 hasn’t acknowledged it.

343 did mention it briefly in the season 1 outcomes report but haven’t mentioned it since.

Sounds like a controller issue, my aim works great.

There is some bugs with shot registration that need to be fixed though.

atleast its not halo 5 aiming bad. aiming used to be fun, even in halo 4. When I played the halo 5 beta, atleast shooting still felt good. When they went from 30 fps to 60 fps in halo 5 full release, they rightfully nerfed the aim assist but in all the wrong ways. they tried to be too clever and reinvent the wheel when all they had to do was reduce the strength of classic aim assist by 50%

Yup even though it’s got extra buttons, elite series 2 controllers are not built good.

But even before I got that controller, I was still having issues with Infinite’s aim.

I doubt it will ever drastically change. Maybe they’ll add more settings down the line but I doubt they’ll ever overhaul the aiming system. MCC feels fantastic while H5 felt horrible, so it didn’t surprise me that Infinite also feels horrible. For some reason, 343i can make a good aiming system for the older games but not their new ones.

The fact that mechanics like the S7 literally pushing your crosshair away from enemies while not scoped in is such a monumental joke. Anti-aim-assist of any form has literally no business being in a game.

The entire aim assist feature set needs a foundational overhaul imo. Aiming feels so much worse in Infinite compared to previous Halo’s and other FPS games it’s crazy.

Literally exactly what happened to me. So lame.

I actually completely stopped playing H5 when my ES2 went out because that games so hard to win 1-1’s in upper platinum and diamond lobbies without paddles (unless you claw I suppose)

I just don’t get why the aiming wasn’t carried over from MCC.

I think you’ve got to keep adjusting your settings and see how that improves or doesn’t for your gameplay.

I have done so multiple times. It’s legit me playing H5 all over again except this time I don’t have to stick with a crappy button preset.

Same, been wondering that since launch. It sucks knowing 343i is capable of making a good aim system, as shown by MCC, but they just aren’t doing it for Infinite. Game would be a lot more enjoyable imo.

I’m genuinely just curious, other than desync/lag/server or keyboard/mouse input issues, what is wrong with the aiming in Infinite? I personally don’t have a problem with the aiming unless desync or lag gets in the way obviously.

I only ask because, some say the aim assist is too high, others say the aim assist is non-existent, some say they don’t notice any differences. So, which is it? Are players just blowin smoke or is there an actual issue?

Because of how the aiming system works in this one everyone has to fine tune the settings to fit each controller. It’s terrible. Even when you get it to it’s best it still feels terrible compared to any past Halo.

I am glad you asked.

To put it simply, the aiming in Infinite is in a similar state to H5. When I’m aiming in a game like Halo, I like to have complete control over tracking. Sadly, that doesn’t happen in some of the situations I’m in.

If you hop into MCC and just test how the aiming controls feel, it’s miles better than what we have in Infinite.

Here’s some threads on what’s happening on the technical side of the aiming mechanics:

To answer your question about the aim assist, it’s really not that much like others claim. It’s actually pretty low. Lower than H5’s that’s for sure. I think the problem stems from the sensitivity controls and how they’re set up. To put it simply, 10 sens on Infinite is much different from 10 sens in MCC.
