I feel like people have forgotten about this feature because of all the other missing features and problems. Anyone know what’s going on with executions?
343 has said that a majority of players turn Assassinations off, so they opted to remove them from Infinite, for now. They will probably dripfeed Assassinations in a later season or drop pod and then expect praise and recognition for giving us something players supposedly didn’t even use in the first place. My best bet is 343 will give us a vanilla assassination for free(if assassinations ever do come back) and then sell all the rest of the animations in a Battle Pass or the in-game store.
I believe I remember them saying they got removed because it put the person doing the assassination at a disadvantage and most players would turn them off for that reason. They plan on bringing them back but are reworking them. I couldn’t tell you how long it will be though given everything else going on
I hope if they do add them to Infinite that we can turn it off, along with kill effects.
Who TF doesn’t want them. I think the “Most” turn them off statement is BS as an excuse to not put the dev time into implementing them and as you said, bring them in later as an 'Amazing addition to the sandbox and 10 euro please…"
Personally, I don’t miss them.
Apart from their cool factor in PvE modes, all they ever served to do was “dunk on” other players- usually in very unsporting fashion, since you’re literally stabbing someone in the back (as opposed to winning an even-keeled combat encounter). Besides that, it wasn’t ever smart to engage in an Assassination animation willingly. You were giving teammates ample opportunity to snatch your kill, opponents ample opportunity to save their teammate being assassinated, and just generally leaving yourself in a helpless condition for the sake of showing off.
Beat Down/Back Smack has always been better.
I would like to see Assassinations return in the context of PvE modes (manifesting the glorious return of classic Firefight in S5, 343 ![]()
), because they’re a lot of fun to see in those modes. But only speaking for myself, I’ve actually found their absence from PvP super refreshing.
I remember loads of people turning them off after a few months in H5. For all the reasons @BanjoSaguaro just listed. Those people would probably keep them off in Infinite too.
Then just make them quicker. A quick neck breaker for example or drop down from above and knife
I liked the Assassinations. But after I unlocked them all, I turned the animation off because there were a few times it would start the animation when I didn’t want it to and it has gotten get me killed lol Even the quick Air Assassination leaves the player open to damage.
All in all, I’m not upset that they are gone because we still got the back smack, but if they can bring Assassinations back in a way that doesn’t allow them to activate at random, they might get more attention this time around.
Make them last a maximum of 1.5 seconds. The old ones were drawn out purposely so that people can stop it. There is a medal for it too. Just make them a lot quicker
Maybe a melee + RT combo so that it’s only done on purpose
And oh man, I would get so pissed whenever a team mate would steal my kill in the middle of an assassination!
Make it impossible for a team mate to steal too. For me its not about dunking on other players. It adds variety to the animations and plays. Removing them was a step back in my opinion. Just make them quick and satisfying and don’t allow team m8’s to steal. In my opinion this would make the game even more fun to both play and watch
They’re gonna have a really hard time coming up with any animation that’s faster and more reliable than a quick back smack, let alone any that are cool enough for most players to consider it worthwhile.
Ultimately, if they do come back, I won’t be upset. As long as I have the option to leave them off for me in PvP modes, it wouldn’t matter much to me. I don’t think the value of them is anywhere near the drawbacks.
As for blocking the ability for teammates to steal the kill mid assassination? I’m not onboard for that. I don’t steal kills from teammates during assassinations because it’s a pretty blatant steal and super inconsiderate. But it goes with the entire territory of Assassinations- they’re flashy and risky. You’re trading the reliability of a quick back smack for the animation and the added vulnerability it comes with, both to your own safety and for your ability to even close out and finish the kill before someone else does.
Most Assassinations are “cheap kills” anyways (from behind on an AFK, unaware, or otherwise occupied player)- if you’re going to take extra time in grabbing a kill like that, you can’t be surprised when someone else takes advantage and swoops it.
Again, I’m super down for Assassinations coming back to PvE, especially. I loved those in Reach. In PvP, I’m sure a lot of fans would be glad to see them back, but I’ll personally continue to steer clear of using them whenever possible. I don’t think they should be even close to 343i’s top priority for things to fix/add to Infinite though.
I liked them and the fact there was the option to use them or not. I remember getting assassinated many times because someone got the jump on me, and I got other players. The decision to remove them is obvious, it won’t fit into this bare-bones Halo release just like the weapon sand-box, there are weapons from other Halo releases that are good, and people have some of their favorites, I have mine, but nope not going to have them in the game.
Like I said a quick neck breaker from behind (Quick twist/flick of the head) of the and maybe stay in 1st person to be even quicker. A sweep of the legs then elbow in one movement. A knee in the back. These could all be nearly as quick as a back smack
Sure? Maybe nearly as fast… maybe. But do you think most players who want Assassinations back would truthfully be happy with them becoming blink-and-you-miss-it fast?
If (probably when) they come back, I think they’ll still be prolonged and technical animations to facilitate them being as flashy as possible. From the beginning, I think they were supposed to play to a similar appeal as Fatalities in Mortal Kombat- just something visceral and violent to spice up the experience for those inclined towards that kind of thing. Something to get the guys on the couch to elicit an, “OH, -YOINK!-”
343i probably will bring them back and sell them like they did in H5- and if they do that, they have no incentive at all to make them faster or more efficient, so I don’t anticipate my personal peeves to be addressed. But if I was sorely missing Assassinations, I’d be optimistic- I’d say that odds are pretty good for them being added by the end of year 3, easily.
Personally don’t want them back. They take you out of the flow of the game, in my view. Don’t mind if they add them, as long as I can turn them off
Lol executions…they will now be called happy destenations…343i is going PC.
When they need a new thing to put in the shop.
