As far as the EMP goes, it’s awesome. It makes you recover from an EMP attack much more quickly. In the banshee as long as you fly high, you will recover before you hit the ground. Other than that, it’s not too useful. DMRs, snipers, and plasmas destroy vehicles in this game. I don’t notice any extra durability like it says.
And I was thinking about using it too.
I noticed it also improve handling. My Ghost flips over less often with Wheelman, and I can actually get a few splatters with it now.
Still, all of the vehicles really need a durability upgrade. Especially the Ghost and Warthog. If they were to restore them to their Halo 3 glory… well, I’ll be happier than I’ve been since I first played Halo multiplayer on Xbox Live.
It’s not extra defense on your vehicles. Rather you gain a slight health regen for any occupied vehicles while using Wheelman. Not extra durability, which is why you are not seeing the changes in regards to that (because you have the wrong thing in mind).

I’m still not noticing any changes though, even after testing in custom games.

The vehicles are reasonably well balanced for the weapons given. They can all cause devastation as always in the right hands. This time though we finally don’t have every second person complaining about how they need to be nerfed.
I can’t imagine the Wheelman mod to be particularly useful, especially due what someone has pointed out about it not actually increasing the durability of the vehicle itself.
Not only this but the Warthog itself is pretty underused (for good reason) at the moment.
yeah i tried it out in a mantis, I was a little surprised at how unhelpful it actually was, I am not a gutsy player and will fall back to let the shields recharge but, i was almost immediately taken down by two guys with DMR’s and 2 stickies, all in all not very useful outside of maybe, spartan ops.
I was really looking forward to it.
That wouldn’t be bad on bolstering the armor on a vehicle, also a speed boost to the heavy vehicles would be appreciated.
Agree to original post, the “extra health” is a joke. But its nice that about a 1/3 of the EMP blasts don’t affect my vehicle.
It’s a slight helping-hand to drivers of vehicles due to the ability to spawn with a Plasma Pistol, and honestly, I use it whenever I plan on using a vehicle, specifically Wraiths or the Mantis.
If you can’t see the difference in custom games, have someone with Wheelman in a vehicle, someone else in another of that vehicle head to head with that vehicle and then have a third person EMP right between the two so it affects both vehicles - instant comparison of how long the EMP lasts. The time varies depending on the vehicle but with the Ghost it speeds up EMP recovery by roughly a second.
I noticed a drastic difference with the EMP time. At first I didn’t, but after paying attention, there clearly is. As far as the durability goes, I haven’t noticed to much - if at all any. However, I have noticed whenever I’m using a 'Hog or Ghost that they don’t smoke as often, but just do before blowing up.
I use it primarily on larger maps that have a heavy vehicle influence that can turn the tides of a game around constantly.
Fyi. It also significantly decreases the window of opportunity for an enemy to hijack your vehicle.
I love it. I think the reduced EMP effect is outstanding. From what I recall pre-wheelman, it seems that all vehicles take one or two more plasma grenades to kill and are more resilient in the face of small-arms fire. That’s about it though.
You still have to be cautious with big ticket items, like the tank. But its a great support option.
As ‘A Critical Hit’ stated, it doesn’t seem to be extra health, but rather a passive regen. I have had my mantis take hits and catch on fire, after which I retreated to note that after a time my Mantis was no longer on fire.
I.E. if you are an aggressive operator who tends to get blown up all at once, this won’t be too helpful, but if you are cautious and patient it can be a real boon.
I’ve had two games on Ragnarok where I managed to keep my Mantis alive for the duration, ticking off two points towards the ‘perfection’ commendation, so it can be quite helpful.
