What's Your Reason For Playing The Challenge?

I’m sure the chance to win a truck is very appealing and all (I know that I would want one) but is there any other reason that you want to win? I was initially doing this for fun, but then it became a bit of a necessity for me. And meeting all these skilled players is great, even if it is under these strange scoring system circumstance.

While I am playing the challenge as much as possible, I have no expectations of winning anything at this point. I have played enough to get into Tier 1 and am floating righting around the 2000 rank. As there can be multiple people holding a rank position, I’m not sure where that puts me.

However, it has had its benefits. By simply requiring gametypes, it has forced me to play and learn gametypes, regicide being the best example, that I previously avoided like the plague. CTF was never my forte but it is now an objective type that I really look forward to. My K/D is now at respectable levels (an even 1 over all, 1,01 team slayer, .85 in ctf, and about 1.26 in regicide) For a lot around here, these may not be spectacular numbers but if you looked at my H3 and Reach stats, its a big deal for me. Before one brings up the H4 is nerfed discussion, I agree with you.

Through the course of the challenge I have finally figured out for the most part, how to use the AR effectively and it is now my weapon of choice.

The challenge has also given me a good look at the community as a whole. There are matches where I play as a Spartan God, others that are tough, even scraps, then thee are those where I am still handed my butt to me and I step away from the game for a few minutes, head bowed in shame.

So for me, a self declared noob for life, I’ve been playing, not necessarily to win, but to just see what I could manage, it has had a lot of positive side effects.

I would’ve loved to participate in the Spartan Ops part of the Challenge, but I didn’t sign up soon enough.

That Challenge is hardly an incentive to me.

I plan on revisiting Spartan Ops Legendary Solo so I can find new ways to play.

Not to rain on the parade but I think its a stupid idea. The entire challenge has nothing to do with skill, its how many points you can acquire over a long period of time. The challenge is who has the most time to waste. People with a life have no chance.I have come across some of these top players and very rarely are they in any term skilled. I am an average player but I still find them easy kills.

The entire challenge is who has the most time to play, it bugs me because I don’t because I have other things I need to do.
Still, not to rain on the parade but that’s my 2 cents.

The people with the most time will win.
And that sucks, I have placed myself in group 2 since I know that I dont stand a chance against the people in group 1 cause they have the time.

Gona win myself some dog tags yeaaah

As much as I am trying to play (only around 10 per cent of the leaders), I agree with you. Being that its points and regicide is capped at around 300 points, the quicker you get thru a match and into another one the better. The previous ctf week, points could change quite dramatically (I saw 1 player manage 1k).

Again tho, Im trying, but agree with you at the same time.

I play challenge regicide because its the closest thing to ffa.

I don’t. I quit playing Halo for a week now and haven’t played any challenge play list for almost two weeks now. I’m still in tier 1. The way I figure it by the end I will be at the top of tier 2 and have a new headset.

I think you have misunderstood how it works like ALOT of people. The first 3 weeks are just for teir placement. After the 3 weeks everyone will be placed into the tier you are in and the stats are reseted. Then for one more week the real competition is.

I gave up on the challenges. There’s no way for someone (like myself) to get anywhere on the leaderboards. I don’t have the time to devote to getting as many points as Tier 1 requires, and I really could care less about the truck. I really would have liked to have some screentime in Halo 5, though…

I’m doing it because it’s worth a shot. If I win, I’m not taking the truck (Even though I would absolutely love to have it, I can’t be bothered to pay taxes, insurance and all that on it), I’m taking the $25,000 which will help me out a lot in the real world. And if I lose and don’t manage to win anything? Well, at least I can say I tried and won’t have any regrets.

So yea, I guess you can say I’m primarily doing it for a chance to have more financial security. Secondarily because it would be pretty cool to be able to say you won a worldwide challenge, even if it’s not entirely skill based.

With that said, I want to wish you all the best of luck. Hopefully one of us Waypointers can bring home the win.

not that i really got into the challenge or played that much as of late, i don’t think that the truck is such a great thing unless it comes with its own lifetime supply free gas card. driving something that huge in a economy like ours is going to ruin a person. especially a 24/7 halo gamer who likely has no job for even being able to win the truck. and paying insurance for it must suck too.

I don’t even play in it because I only play like an average of 45 mins per day but an SVT Raptor is a sick truck.

Yeah, it’s really frustrating for me as well. I play almost all of my matches being the person with the highest kill but it never gets me anywhere, guess we’re both going to get tags soon hahaha. I do hope that you all achieve whatever success you wanted when you first got into it. Good luck!

Hey.
So about the first day the challenge went online, I signed up.
The next day I played from morning to night. Sounds pathetic, but I’m on a vacation, and Halo 4 is still a new game, you know?
So anyway, I played and I was kicking -Yoink- with the storm rifle. It’s my most used weapon, apparently. And the day after I checked my stats on the leaderboards and it said I was in Tier 1, level 3000 something.
I was pretty surprised. I wasn’t playing REALLY hard. And not literally from morning to night. I was at home bumming around.
But I made top player for nearly all the games I played. I guess that’s the difference. (Also your k/d, for sure!)
Then I did CTF the next week, I did decently well. Checked my stats after a while, then it was 2300 something. Then last week Regicide. I won, or placed second almost all my games. I checked and now I’m rank 2081.
This week is Dominion…which I’ve played like a total of 5 times, since release date. xD I hate it.
But I’m going to play a few games here and there this week, watch my k/d a bit, and at least try to maintain my position in the leaderboard. I used to think k/d wasn’t a big factor, or a big deal, but when you’re constantly giving the enemy easy kills, you’re only hurting yourself and your team.
I actually do think you’re placed in Tier 1 if you play somewhat well. I’m not talking pro, but I’m not talking about half- assing 10 games in a row hoping your score inches up. :stuck_out_tongue: You have to play well. There’s a difference between the Tier 1, 2, and 3 player’s playing styles and approach I’m sure.

Sorry if this was too much info. I just wanted to show everyone my perspective on how I’ve approached the challenge. OH and I’m only playing for fun. And I like the fact that I got in Tier 1 after a day of playing. It was a motivator for me. I’m pretty competitive when I want to be.

Well, I thought that the scores reset after the qualifier, so that only t1 people started and went for it.

But, my Mom’s car is 15 years old and I would sure as hell like to win her a new one from me playing video games.

I don’t play the challenge bacause of the prizes because I’m sure I won’t win anything. I’m in Tier 1 but the guys on the first page still have a 60 times bigger score than I, and I don’t have enough time to play several hours per day to get to the top. However, it’s fun and like someone mentioned it before, it made me to try out other game types as well, not just slayer/SWAT and KoTH. (Though miss KoTH a lot, I can’t wait when they put it back:-)

I alrdy gave it up after CTF was the playlist for the challenge (I hate H4 ctf).

And last week it was regicide also a gametype I don’t like and after that I haven’t played h4 alot I moved on alrdy.

Glory, fame and honour.
