January 10, 2014 update: I’m now a Colonel.
My rank is major my current skill rank is 30 think its in lone wolves or swat.
On this account, I am level 50 in Team Slayer. I was playing a random game on Valhalla trying to rank up solo when I met a couple players who were boosters that saw I was dominating. I guess they were bored so they invited me to their party after the match. They weren’t trying to get something from me or anything. They just boosted me out of the clear blue. I didn’t even have a mic so I heard their callouts through my TV lol. We didn’t lose a single game from the moment I met them at level 20, and I got MVP every game from level 33 up. We did it in one five hour session (long search times). Their gamertags were “Dracula” and BadByChoice.
This was not my first time reaching 50. My original 50 was in 2008, but I got carried completely on my 50 game. I literally went negative 10 or something like that. My first legit solo 50 came later that year searching in team doubles. Eventually over time I got really good and earned SWAT, Snipers, and even an MLG 50. I never got Lone Wolves or Team Objective. The reason I say Objective is because I was a 47, and I played that playlist to death even when the population was down under 2,000. It was the one 50 I wanted most.
As for what I did with the 50s well most of the time I moved on to new accounts. I only ever played consistently on my Team Doubles 50s. I played a bit of Team Slayer and Team Snipers 50 too…maybe 150 games each lifetime. I still have many of my old accounts emails and passwords saved to a word document. I must have went through at least 50 accounts during Halo 3’s prime.
1-50 to me is the best ranking system in any video game. It rewarded winning not stat padding. I’m not saying it couldn’t be done better. In fact, halo 2 was probably more fair because it was slower (although I would prefer something in between both in terms of difficulty). However, 1-50 was just perfect because it was a perfect medium for casual players. It wasn’t too realistic like Arena where everything was taken super seriously and you constantly got reset, but it still gave me something to shoot for and showed my skill was improving.
Getting to 50 was so much fun for me. These memories are up there with playing against MLG - wait I mean 343i 
- Neighbor and Rippin Headz (#1 for H3 halo charts). Also, I’m still friends with a guy who was #7 on halo charts.
My brother, his GT is WAG 666, I finally past him in ranking but not skill ranking. He’s a Major Grade 3 and a level 50 in Lone Wolves, and trust me you don’t want to mess with him in Halo 3.
lvl 50 5 Star General. Retired General that is. My days of hardcore team slayer day in and day out are at an end (for the most part).
The satisfaction of a visible skill ranking system pushed me to play better and do better. It’s what I miss in the newer Halos. No incentive to care or do better. In Halo 3 it kept me driven to do well and get that 50.
Then I just kept playing and hit that “cannot increase rating” after you get 5000 exp. That was cool to see. I never played a Halo’s matchmaking so much and so often for 6 years to ever hit a high rank like that. I doubt I ever will again … unless the game is really good but Halo 3 is almost impossible to match in quality and satisfaction. Reach and Halo 4 are meh at best and the ranks in that game mean nothing.
I don’t remember my old account, but currently I’m a Gunnery Sergeant, Total EX 50, Skill 27 … not very impressive, I know. I barely play online anymore.

Colonel w/ Highest Skill 42 in Lone Wolves. Don’t know exactly how much exp, but it’s below 500.
Halo 3 does a really good job at letting you know you’ve capped out. I play a game of Lone Wolves at 41, dominate, get back to 42, play another game, fail miserably, fall back to 41, and the cycle repeats…
I keep trying at it, but I’ll likely never get to 45 for the Brigadier rank up.

My Global Rank is a 5 Star General with ten-thousand six-hundred experience, with seventy-five hundred experience in Rocket Race alone. My level 50 is in Team SWAT.
