What's your game Microsoft?

So Microsoft is making a new 360 console, even though the Xbox One is right around the corner. It also seems that they are continuing to offer new games, upgrades, and XBL features for the 360 even after Xbox One comes out. Did they know that the concept of the Xbox One wouldn’t take at first? As in, most of the gaming community wouldn’t find it appealing when it first comes out? Is this some kind of long-term plan in which the Xbox One will eventually become accepted because of its drastic changes? I’m having trouble reading what their business plan is here because trying to sell everyone an Xbox One, at least right at release, doesn’t seem to be it.

It’s possible.

But I think they are aware that their Xbox 360 is in like 8 out of 10 homes. They know not everyone is going to to jump right to the Xbox One due that a lot of people are happy with the 360, the price is going to affect peoples choice, and yes a lot of people are turned off with their new policies.
I think their trying to get the most out of their console before it becomes obsolete and support the current fans.

But with a new xbox 360 console, you would have thought they’d rename it, like slimx2 or something, and maybe, just maybe, its actually upgraded with new hardware. Who knows until it comes out, but hey, that is all I’m guessing.

Seeing as how they already stated that “…if people want an offline console, we have one for them. It’s called the 360.”, I’m actually glad to see that they are still supporting it, and hopefully they continue to do so for a bit into the Xbox One’s life cycle.

yeah it is weird. I think this gen may be the first gen where the old gen (360) and new (xb1) will probably coexist for a long while together. The 360 is a great machine and many people, myself included, wonder if this next gen is making a large enough leap forward to really feel like next gen technology.

to me some 360 games look amazing. For instance i played some Allen Wake last night, it looks amazing and i can’t really see how any graphical improvement would take that game to next level. But we’ll see what next gen is like when it gets here…

It’ll be interesting to see how long the 360 stays relevant while the xb1 is out. my guess is a long while.

Wow, I guess that Microsoft guy actually meant it when he said that if Xbox players want an offline device they can stick with the Xbox 360. At least I can use it on a nuclear submarine!

> At least I can use it on a nuclear submarine!

Alright, I laughed.

It’s a new generation, of course they’re still going to support the current one for a long while. Heck, Sony just stopped making the PS2 earlier this year. The limited supply of consoles available at launch, the price, and the number of games make it unreasonable to stop support for the current gen.

They probably knew that people wouldn’t take to the idea. Though its like, we already got a Slim, why do we need a smaller one?

It doesn’t make sense to have a third iteration of a console.

> It doesn’t make sense to have a third iteration of a console.

Why not? Sony’s on their third version of the PS3.

I think it’s more of a question of “Why not?” rather than “Why?”. Plus, it’s nice to see that they are not ignoring their current generation while they shift their focus to the next.
