I just want to hear it from you guys. Everyone seems to prefer Exile, Longbow, and Ragnarok over them 85% of the time.
Is it the lighting? Exile and Rag are much brighter and have clearer lines of sight. I guess you could say that blue team has an unfair camouflage advantage on Vortex and Meltdown, but that can’t be the only reason.
I like Vortex
But Meltdown is just a Terrible warthog map
> I like Vortex

The game is terrible for Warthogs, in general. Except the Gauss.
What’s really strange is that Meltdown was designed to support vehicular combat but it doesn’t really. This is why my expectations are fairly low for the Castle map pack. That ‘Outcast’ map is really going to be an “outcast”.
I like Vortex for Big Team, and I love Meltdown for Dominion though.
Meltdowns actually one of my top fav maps.
Hasn’t gotten voted for since release, sadly.
I hate Vortex, everyone just camps the center structure. And I think that’s why everyone hates it as well…

There aren’t very many good maps for warthogs at all anymore…
Nothing wrong with them at all. The community prefer Exile, Longbow, and Ragnarok. Some pick up Exile due vehicles like tank and overpowerd Gauss I guess.

I could agree there.
-Too many obstructions
-Too many areas where players can hide
-Easy to be ambushed from above levels
-Poor lines of sight
Actually they are both quite undervoted in my opinion. I used to always back out of an exile vote because of the OP gauss but now it’s been fixed. All stock BTB maps are great. Longbow and ragnorok are the best though, simple. But I won’t vote for those because I’ve played a million games on them. People need to give vortex and meltdown more attention.
What’s a crimson map pack?
Really looking forward to castle map pack tho
They’re not nearly so bad so as to warrant the Exile marathons we so often endure. IMHO:
Vortex is cool enough but it doesn’t quite feel like an outdoor map and it doesn’t quite feel like an indoor map, either. It’s a great dominion map though.
Meltdown has too many vehicles when in reality it shouldn’t support any. There are two ways I’d fix it: 1) make the “loop” free of all obstacles and let the vehicles be vehicles and not toy bumper cars lacking a purpose. 2) Remove all vehicles and make it a footsoldier map… broaden the ledges and you could have some fun cross-map vertical combat.
I don’t really care for which maps I get into, but I have only one reason why I dislike these two in particular, and different reasons that is.
Vortex, I tend to see the entire enemy team siting in the middle structure, and so does my team.
Meltdown, I like out of the BTB maps because you can run other weapons other than the LightRifle and DMR, but everyone is in the middle, behind the cliffs.
who knows. I don’t mind playing on those maps when people actually vote for them lol
Meltdown is just a god awful map. If they wanted to make BTB Ice map with twist and turns, they could have just remade Ice Fields from Halo PC. Vortex is “okay” in Dominion but fails in pretty much every other game type.
I dislike how Exile is voted for 80% of the time I play BTB or Dominion. Longbow is fine and I love Meltdown. Vortex is alright as well.
Meltdown is my favorite in Dominion only because I never run out of I.C. ammo or lose it unless I accidentally kill myself, usually lasting half or the whole game with one and many kills(I might be one of the reasons and other players like me to why Meltdown is avoided.)
Vortex is actually a pretty common pick when I play, about as much as Exile and Longbow (Ragnarok beats them all, but I don’t really mind, it shows up only occasionally and it’s a pretty nice map).
I especially love Vortex after a pretty epic Dominion game in which my team in the middle base held off an assault by the enemy’s last base in the caves. Binary lasers zipping around, Incineration shots roaring by, the crack of AR, BR, and DMR fire from all around, the blast of an exploding Wraith just outside, and I am in the middle of all of it, guarding the door with my Scattershot… glorious pitched battle.
Meltdown is… Meltdown. Not much to say about it for me. It’s there, I’ll play it when it appears, but can’t say it’s my favorite (pretty good looking though, as most are)
i really like meltdown but vortex im not too crazy about the layout.
I haven’t played Vortex enough to have an option on it, I have played it less than half a dozen times.
Meltdown, however, is the map I feel suits Halo 4 the best. It has enough close-quarters areas for automatic weapons, has limited enough sightlines so the DMR and LR don’t dominate. Too bad they had to ruin it with a Mantis. It’s a crime this map doesn’t come up often, and should honestly be in CTF over Ragnarok.
I have nothing against Meltdown. Playing on it is great, especially with Dominion.
Vortex is just off in every way. Too long sight lines, cramped buildings, random gravity lift in the open, etc.
Dominion plays perfectly on Meltdown, too. Dominion gives away too many weapons for the middle point to be so impossible to contest like on maps such as Exile or Longbow.
I hate Vortex. I think the colors just reminded me too much of Reach.
And the general map design was very similar to large maps in Reach, bringing out the worst of Halo 4’s gameplay. Not particularly fun.
I love Meltdown. Vehicle combat is a let down, as always, but the mayhem that ensues on that map reminds me of what Halo used to be.
Also, I absolutely love playing snipers on Meltdown. The map is huge and offers substantial cover: if you’re smart and play and your cards right, you can get huge sprees without being found. Lots of fun.
