what's wrong with the H4 look?

ive been wwondering this. Cause Halo 4 is fairly similar to Halo 3 in many ways. like CE had smooth silver clean structures. Halo 2 had mostly old style ruin cement concrete style structures with some dirty looking CE design. Halo 3 had very angled and chrome colored style.

Halo 4 is pretty much a more shiny and sci fi version of Halo 3. The design is fairly similar .

Halo 3 and Halo 4 are closer than Halo 3 is to 2 or CE. Just cause 4 adds some crazy neon lights doesn’t make it bad

The hate on its looks are mainly from the peope who believe Cod to be the best thing since sliced bread and all other games are stealing from it , even when the opposite is true.

That plus general hate toward H4 in general. Personally i like the art direction. Just hope the covies arent all reptiles again.

There is nothing wrong with Halo 4s art style I think they did a good job but I do feel as if some of the multiplayer environments don’t looks that good. Ragnarok for example has a very strange feel to the ground textures specifically. The bits of sand and gravel bursting through the grass may be more realistic but doesn’t look right somehow.

Halo 4 has very nice weapon models ( some kind of strayed to far from the classic halo look) and some really detailed vehicles and maps I just think that some of the textures on certain surfaces look out of place and don’t look 100% Halo at times. I also think some of Halo 4s maps have a bit to much effects and look over bright of over glarey at time yes it looks great as an art piece but I think it makes gameplay a bit muddy at times.

I agree. I also think that changing so much of the “HALO design” over to more “STAR WARS like design” did that something just did not feel right. And then that they just changed Master Chief’s armor design (without a logical explanation) and let him woke up in a new ship was just unforgiving.

I feel that way about the sounds more than anything. I was really disappointed when I first heard the changes they had made to classic weapons such as halos Shotgun or Energy Sword. but as with everything it had upsides and downside. Forge for example may have had really poor maps but had amazing functionality which I am glad to see returned in the MCC and with H2A new scripting I cant wait to see what 5 holds for Forge.

It’s the Spartan armor. From CE to Reach MJOLNIR had a very specific utilitarian military look, and whenever you saw Marines, ODST or Spartans they looked like they have been in a fight. Everyone looked like they belonged on a battlefield. In Halo 4 the Spartans are all bright, shiny and polished, and the Marines look like they just came back from the cleaners. They’re like the British Army during the Revolution, sticking out like sore thumbs. A lot of those helmet variations were just plain stupid.

My son believes that the “anime” style of Spartan armor was an attempt to appeal to younger players.

Just make the under suit full black and I will be happy, also less alien looking human armor (unless its specifically supposed to be alien inspired like helioskrill)

Halo 2 Anniversary has the best look the series ever had. Halo 4 is waaaaaay too shiny and bloomy. H2A has the color scheme of 3, but the updated realism of 4, and the next-gen fidelity of what 5 is going to be.

I love the art style, it takes things to a whole new level with Halo. Sure some armors were bad, like Eva had a duck bill and Commando just had an elephant freak child, but many of them were also sick, like recon and Locus. Overall environments in the game looked great, and the new look of forerunner structures is great, in fact bloody awesome. I’m glad to see the style keeping over to Halo 5, as I have a story linked to my spartan, so I’m happy my spartan can Survive the transition to Halo 5.

Halo 4’s art was awesome! I mean… those Forerunner structures.

This. Halo 4’s art style tries way too hard to appear over the top to the point its just hideous. The same can be said for the weapons as well. Especially how they sound.

This… this makes no sense whatsoever.

The overall art style is great, it’s more individual things that don’t quite work.

Halo 4’s in-game HUD looks terrible. Specifically the shield charge bar.

And they didn’t nail the proper aesthetics of what Spartan armor should look like.

Covenant Elite armor is supposed to be graceful and flowing while Human Spartan equipment is supposed to be utilitarian and blocky, like what Reach showed, but in Halo 4 certain suits are a lot more curvy than they should be.

Example: Pioneer. Hurts my eyes whenever I look at it.

Elite design was in general better back when they were more interested in making the Elites look “alien” than monstrous, when they had distinctively colored armor that you could actually use to identify them with, and when they didn’t randomly go around unarmored. (my fave model is the Halo 3 elite model for a reason http://i.imgur.com/z0mhw8X.jpg )

As for the Spartan armor in Halo 4, I think most of the problem with that is they just kinda messed up with the bodysuit design.

Halo games always had the bodysuit visible to some degree or another in previous games under the hard armor exterior. But ussually at least it looked thick/rigid enough for you to think of it just as lighter armor when you glanced over it. But 343 modeled/textured the body suit in a way that made it look VERY skin tight, and made it contrast sharply with the armor plates. As a consequence it doesn’t look like they’re wearing a continuous suit of armor, but rather that they just stuck random chunks of metal on the bodysuit at random. It’s not really a look I find all that appealing.

If there’s been any modest improvement to the designs of the Halo 5 armor, is that they seem to be blending in the undersuit in with the hard armor components a bit better.

Well, I think that its inconsistent. In reach, the armor was rugged and simple. In 2 and 3, the armor is more futuristic and clean.
halo 4 blends those two designs together, so it feels weird.

I like the new armour personally. Less black to spoil my colour coordination.

Omg. I hope your comfy there in your bubble shield.
