Whats wrong with CSR?

People are comparing CSR to BpR from reach as evidence that it won’t work. First off there is a huge difference between whats been outlined for CSR and what BpR was. BPR from what I gathered was just a number 1-100 that measured your k/d assists and stuff over all playlist and pooped out a number. We can’t say it failed because it was waypoint only. The number was arbitrary and non-progressive thats why it failed.
The main differnece then is that there is a unique CSR to each playlist and it is based on “match outcomes” which is exactly how halo 3 worked.
I don’t see it being waypoint-only a problem since most gamers (i’m making a personal generalization) have smartphones anyway and can check it while playing. If not smartphones most gamers should at least have a computer.
So whats the big beef with CSR? Why is it a big ol’ slap in the face as I’ve heard before?

Most people’s problem is that CSR is only viewed on Waypoint.
Most fans won’t even know it exists and fewer people will really strive to improve it. If people don’t care or even acknowledge your ranking system then it’s redundant.

I don’t know how it calculates the CSR value, I haven’t looked into it because I doubt I’ll be playing Halo 4 MP by then.

> People are comparing CSR to BPR

343i said it’s completely different, those people are misinformed.

Actually, all we know about the CSR is that it’s going to be on Waypoint and that it’s going to rate our skill in every playlist.

There’s not much to comment about it exept it’s non-presence into the game, we just have to wait for more informations/its realease to judge it.

Why do you keep posting this thread?

I’ve heard people say it would be a hassle to keep accessing Waypoint through the in-game menu, just to check if they ranked up after a game. But I don’t see why anyone would need to check that often. You could just do it once at the end of your gaming session, before you switch off your console. It wouldn’t be a huge inconvenience to do that.

Showing the rank in-game is the most crucial part of it. This is due to the fact, (and alot of people refuse to admit it) that it brings status. We see this in alot of game mechanics (the importance of K/D-ratio, the file share, etc.) What kept me going in halo 3 was due to this. Everytime you were in a lobby and were matched with brigadiers and generals, you had a certain awe and fear for them. This is might not seem like a big deal but it is. It is everything for people with a competitive multiplayer spirit. Instead of seeing players that are 130 and thinking “that guy has no life”, people that are CSR 50 (or whatever is highest) are thought of as “damn that guy must be pro”. This type of player evaluation ONLY happens IN-GAME.

In a nutshell it is like this: you want status as a reward, from who? From fellow gamers. Will these fellow gamers randomly check your rank on the website? NO. Will they in the game lobby itself? YES!
