Wondering why so many clans base their ranks off the marines. Is it just because of the rank of lance corporal or gunnery sergeant instead of having army ranks like specialist or sergeant first class?
Oh my god, this aspect of clans drives me absolutely insane!
In an environment where you’re supposed to sit back and chill with your friends, it’s baffling beyond thought that people decide to impose some form of “restrictive structure” in a video game. I kid you not, I’d be willing to go on a 10-minute rant about these kinds of clans based on my personal experience. I would make a rant thread in the forums outlining my pet peeves with these groups, but then it’d be labeled non-constructive or unnecessary shortly afterwards.
In short, you’d have much better luck interpreting the Engima code than those garbled service tags.
If I had to guess, lack of research and imagination. Most of the people who run them dont really understand exactly how it works and dont bother actually doing any checking, etc.
Hax covered it pretty well.
It would be cool if you could customize the ranks on the company to be personal. It would add a pretty cool aspect to the companys

That’s another thing I have to point out. Based on personal experience, clans can serve as a direct reflection of the leader(s), usually to the dismay of its members and onlookers. Trying to put your own spin on the formula may keep things fresh, but that only provides relief for a short while. Eventually, the person(s) in power will inevitably take things too far and respond with decisions one can describe as being ridiculous, irrational, or simply a bunch of bull****.
I hate it and will never join a clan like that. I want to play games and have a good time, not act like I’m in some high school “power trip”, as its been called on the Waypoint Discord, or a military style clan with silly goals.

Well that is simply your experience with them. Clearly they wouldn’t be thing if people didn’t want to be in clans that run like that. Some people, like yourself prefer to have a chilled atmosphere to just hang around with people, but there are many to find this ‘restrictive structure’ enjoyable simply because it gives them more to do within the game. Most tend to base their ranking systems off of already established systems because they work. They’re generally understood and so there is less need to explain the different ranks to every new member. If this more ‘serious’ way of playing wasn’t meant to be a part of the game, then they wouldn’t have introduced the first clan support system on waypoint. People have fun in different ways, if you don’t like it, then don’t hang around it.

I can see why it would be fun though. Kind of like roleplaying, but actually having an element outside of the game. But just like with any other clan, you’d need to be active and invest time into it - and a lot of people wouldn’t have the time for that,

Drawing from personal experience (as others might’ve been gone through different things), that time can span SEVERAL HOURS of doing absolutely nothing productive. It’s a waste of time, honestly.

Isn’t playing video games a waste of time, honestly? Some of us prefer to play with others in a mil-sim environment. While there are literally thousands of military clans on Halo that do absolutely nothing, don’t get better at playing the game or as a team, the Halo Military Clan Community is very much attentive to making their members better, and providing a space for people of a like-mind to enjoy the RP experience. If that isn’t for you, or you had a bad experience I apologize. But it isn’t to say that it’s pointless over the entire act of wasting your time playing a videogame lol. Take care!
