What's up with these Avatars/Emblems?

Before responding please know that I’m not trying to insult anyone or belittle 343, so if I come across as a little sarky…have a cookie.

Alright, that being said. Has anyone actually looked at some of these emblems? Some of them aren’t cropped properly and most of them are…well…pointless.

For example, this one.

Maybe it’s just me, but these emblems are kinda crappy. Then you look at the Mods and such who have pretty cool looking emblems. Some of them customs. Why can’t normal users have a chance at that sort of thing? I know that some people would abuse the feature so why not have an approval system?

Here’s my idea of how it would go, there would be volunteers to approve/deny various emblems on the Forum. Pretty sure I don’t need to explain how that would work.

But what if people wanted to change their emblems? Well I could imaging that the approve/deny volunteers would have to get through a LOT of emblems. Therefore I’d suggest a system where you could only change your emblem ONCE A MONTH. If you messed it up by accident, too bad. You’ve got to wait.

Does this seem like a bad idea or what? I can imagine there’s many more pressing matters for 343 to attend to, but if a company I’ve hired to make my website can do this in less than 48 hours. I’m fairly certain a company like Microsoft could do it too.

Edit:
Another idea to expand on this would be to only have access to it after getting something like 1,500 posts. I’ve seen in previous threads that people need a lot of posts before obtaining a Signature, what if this was one of those types of things to avoid giving it to users from the getgo? Root out the posters, so to speak.

So I guess nobody’s interested? D:

in my opinion Most of the emblems are fine.
You have a Boring one picked out there

But with the New feature to have your spartan or in-game emblem as avatar
the need for being able to give everyone a custom avatar has gone down.

All I know it has been asked a lot here but it seems too much for the Forum team to to “Monitor”

343I more than likely has their reasons for not doing it, what those reasons are specifically, I cannot say for certain. But as Candy did say, with the ability to use one’s spartan or emblem, it does lower the need a bit.

But as this does deal with the Halo Waypoint site (specifically it’s avatars), I’m going to move it over to that section.

I don’t see what makes you think that just anyone can make this website in under 48 hours. Sure that image isn’t that great, but since you can use your emblem or spartan I feel that customization is good enough. If you couldn’t use your emblem or spartan I would agree, however even if they tried to fix the problem they would probably just use emblems as the answer. I think we are as far as we are going to get when it comes to emblem customization whether it is in the forums or Halo. 343i didn’t put customizable emblems in Halo 4, and they felt the same way about the forums. I feel that this is also pretty lame but I know they have their reasons. Also on a side note there are a lot of people that believe there should never be customizable emblems on either the Halo games or the forums because of children, but I feel that this forum and the Halo games should be treated as if they were for mature communities. (which actually they both should be in the first place) So I guess I agree with how you feel on how there should be customizable emblems, but really I don’t think they will ever feel that they should allow the community to just make whatever emblem they want.

We used to have an official thread where people could suggest new Halo-related avatars to be added to the selection. I don’t know where it went or if it’s still being paid attention to, though.

I imagine that if such a thread were to come back (and if anything were to actually come of it), that could go a long way toward alleviating concerns at the lack of avatar variety.

I saw that thread ages ago, before I had an account I used to lurk around. I noticed that most of them were ignored though. D:

There were two threads (one glitched out for a while so, with bs angel’s permission, I made the second) however, despite it being an official submission thread, none of them were used. I was quite disappointed.

Make a Forum Avatar!

It’d be awkward though that some people, while they might not be rule breaking, could upload things like, COGs.

I’m still waiting to get my new avatar…
