I’m not sure how credible a source like VGChartz really is, but according to them Black Ops 3 (on Xbone) has outsold Halo 5 by a landslide, on it’s own console!!! By more than 3 million copies! I thought Halo was Xbox’s flagship and number 1 selling franchise, or is this site full of BS? Either way I hope H5 comes to PC to help boost its sales.
PS Not a big deal because I still love the series, I just want to see it do well
Notice how people never said vg charts was unreliable until halo 5 came out? It is a reliable source but 343 fans don’t want to believe the truth. Sadly halo has been on its death bed ever since it became cod xenophobic warfare in 2012. I’m glad they kinda toned that down but I wish it would just go back to being its own unique thing that made halo 3 sell 12 million that’s how they would get sales back up.
Edit: Here’s a good screenshot to sum it up.
Well, c’mon now, 3.7 million is hardly ‘deathbed’ material, but you do have a point there. Now I’m just wondering why so many people with Xbox’s have been buying COD when you can get that on other platforms, I thought most people who bought an Xbox bought it for Halo because, well, there aren’t too many other quality exclusives (besides Fable, and I think that series is dead now as well) on the Xbox. If they changed gameplay back to H1-3 style, you really think they can get those Halo 3 sales again?
No they can’t. No matter what game you make, you will never hit those numbers with an FPS. FPS is a dying genre. COD has also been struggling. Games like minecraft and the Bethesda RPG’s are too great a threat. When Halo 3 and MW3 came out was the peak of FPS popularity. GTA V has made $500,000,000 through it’s online mode micro transactions. The current generation of gamers want freedom to make their own character, something FPS don’t do well. (The campaign of black ops 3 does not even have a black character model, despite the customization feature) In Halo, you are the master chief (or the Rookie, or Noble six etc…). That’s what made it great in the past. Kids don’t like that anymore. They want to create a character and pretend that is them. Halo is my favorite series and the reason I bought an xbox one. But FPS fans are becoming the exception not the rule.
Hasn’t CoD been outselling Halo since CoD: 4? This isn’t news.
Also, Halo 5 is doing just fine.

Well they could have if halo 4 didn’t try to become cod. But I believe in giving 343 one more chance. If they legitimately learn from their mistakes like they claim they are, then they have a chance at bringing millions of people back. But for this there would have to be at the minimum.
- Playable elites
- Every game mode
- Every game mode with a classic playlist
- Classic maps
- Better servers
- No REQ system crap
- And having 60% of the game not built around one game mode.

lol No it isn’t. There is a decline compared against the absolute best selling titles, but sales are still tremendously higher than the sales of what are considered CoD’s greatest loved titles. Modern Warfare and World at War.
Sales will cycle, but the genre is by no means dying.

Yes COD vs.HaloNote that Call of duty is on two, (some are on three) systems while Halo is on one, but the point still stands. Halo appeals to a smaller market than COD. Anyone who has played BO3 can tell you that COD has no campaign plot. It is just point and shoot.

If you looked at the COD sales link, you would notice that World at War did not sell very well compared to other COD games, only beating out 2,3 and the Wii version of 4. Sales have been declining sine 2011-2012. All FPS are selling far less than they did a few years ago.
EDIT: There will always be FPS games, but the genre is losing it’s title as the most popular genre of games.

Losing to what genre?
Go search the top selling games for the past few years… You’ll consistently see FPS claim the number 1 spot. The exception being 2013 when GTA 5 won. But recall that the new consoles had recently launched and CoD: Ghost released in November compared to GTA 5’s September release.
FPS is not dying.

OMG, who the hell cares. The game is not dying, nor on it’s deathbed.

It’s definitely dying but I will agree its probably got a little bit more before the death bed.
Edit: and 343 said they want to keep halo going for another 20-30 years? Good luck.

It didn’t meet your expectations, so that makes it a dying game?

When you go from 12 million to selling less than Titanfall I’d say yes definitely dying.

Dying in all the money it’s made I guess. What a terrible death.

The money their only making because of some micro transaction -Yoink- that doesn’t belong to halo. That’s literally the only reason 343 has millions of dollars to throw away and give to some e-sport people. And it allegedly pays for this “free DLC” ha well Here’s proof that it’s just delayed stuff that should have been in the game at launch… pretty interesting seeing as stasis is 2 years old and is literally the first snow map they made!!!
VGchartz is crap always has been always will be but sadly many see something on the internet and immediately think it’s true.
