What's up with the black screen?

Ok, so I got this problem with multiplayer, during each game I got this “loading game” black screen. I know it may be caused by crappy connection (btw I don’t experience any lags etc. just the black screen). I also noticed that many players are experiencing the same issue (I’m sure that somebody have already mentioned that on this forum, but the search option doesn’t work for some reason). To be absolutely sure that this is not caused by my internet connection I did this: I’ve turned on the xbox, checked the xbox live connection (it didn’t show anything wrong), then go to my pc and check my internet speed (http://www.speedtest.net/result/2404154949.png), both my console and the pc are connected by a ethernet cable to the my -Yoink!- super hub (btw, I have enabled the upnp option and my NAT is open). After all that, I have experienced four black screens in a one game (not mentioning the spartan ops which freezed few times). So, here is my question: What is wrong? It clearly isn’t my bad connection. I really like the campaign, but common I’m not gonna play it over and over again just because I can’t play the multiplayer.

Really this black screen issue is ruining my whole game experience, I don’t play competitively but still it isn’t fun keep appearing dead after each black screen and it is simply not worthy of my time.

Don’t misunderstand me, 343 industries did great job developing halo 4, and I really did enjoy the campaign and the multiplayer (well, before the black screen issue, that is). Personally, I really like the new multiplayer system and all.

Please let me know what may be causing this issue or point to right part of the forum (as I said before the search tool isn’t working for me).

Thank you for any help, and I’m sorry for any spelling mistakes etc. I’m Polish

Halo 4’s Matchmaking is just -Yoink!- that is all. It isn’t your connection, so you don’t have to worry about that. Halo 4 is one of the only games I’ve got that has major problems while playing online. Ghost Recon: FS even plays better and that used to be bloody terrible with lag and all that.

The black screen occurs when the Internet HOST of a match leaves the game.

The server then has to find the new host for the match, this takes a minute and is the “loading” that you are experiencing.

This is a server issue that has existed in Halos 2-4.

It’s nothing new and it isn’t anything wrong, it happens.

Thanks for the response.

“The server then has to find the new host for the match, this takes a minute and is the “loading” that you are experiencing.” Yes, I have already noticed that, but while playing with my friends they always seem to be playing faster while I’m still on the black screen, and that’s what really bugs me (because, they have slower internet connection than me).
“This is a server issue that has existed in Halos 2-4.” The funny thing is that I have never really experienced that issue before (at least not that often) while playing halo reach for instance while having 20mb\s internet download speed.

More to that, most of the times the game says “loading the game” rather than “searching for a new host” while no one was kick out or joined in.

So it just made me think: Why the halo 4 is choosing crappy host for some multiplayer match games?

Perhaps the 343 industries should add search filter like it was in halo 3?

I too have been having a lot of black screen issues. So much so it has kept me from playing halo 4. I play with a large group of friends who are all able to play while I’m black screened regardless if they are on my team or the opposing team. This is NOT a host issue. 343 needs to figure this out, one of my favorite games is quickly becoming one that hate.

I have been playing quite a bit of halo today, and I have been going into black screen whenever the connection is yellow or worse. I don’t mind playing some games on foreign host but when I go into black screen literally 6-8 times a game for minutes at a time… I am really not able to play. I know this has nothing to do with my connection… When I test my connection and I have:

21 Ping to the Server downtown,
17 mbps download and,
1 mbps up.

I have played on this connection for years and never had a problem. I reset the router removed all the other devices and still anything that isn’t green bar sends me into a black screen frenzy. I have downloaded things to see if the speed tests are lying to me and everything downloads really fast. I played some custom games with people and it plays fine.

If anyone knows what might be causing this please let me know, otherwise 343 need to fix the problem. Also while you’re at it, add a “Search for best connection” function and stop joining us into games that are almost finished and are winnable.

Thanks.

Totally agree.

I quit playing multiplayer H4 (after ~1400 war games) and switched back to Reach on June 2. Of the ~40 BTB games I have played since then in Reach, I have normal “H4 Type Lag” for maybe 30 seconds TOTAL in those games (in H4 70% of my games are lagged by 0.5 to 5 second range). Other mp games I play also don’t lag - it’s just H4. If I want to have a good lag free Halo game, I go Halo Reach. In the Reach BTB Lobby, there are usually 1,500 players and I get into a BTB Game just as fast as I do on H4 when there are 9,000 players in the BTIS Lobby - so it’s not a number of players thing - it’s not my connection - it’s not the phase of the moon - it’s H4.

I played a game of Halo 3 today where the game black screened literally every few seconds, luckily the people I was playing with were trash and I got my 25 kills quickly.

It’s a problem that’s existed in every Halo since Halo 2, hopefully we’ll see it’s demise with the advent of dedicated servers in Halo 5!
