What's up with our Elite friends?

Simple enough question.

Do we have any info, at all, of what’s going on over there? Besides the civil war?

Well, ONI started a civil war on their planet.

They are trying to relearn their ancient farming techniques (kind of silly).
They’re trying to maintain their technology which is apparently breaking down since they don’t have engineers (also kind of silly).
And they appear to be misplacing several ships. Kind of surprising there were only a few ships at max in the battle during The Thursday War.

Some are running around with the insurrectionists on Venezia.

And Jul is rounding up everyone on the outskirts of Sangheili territory, who all apparently are still religious fanatics, have access to a surprising amount of ships (though small) and know how to recruit a large amount of other Covie species for their cause.

Lots of chaos, lost and confusing chaos. Some of it is silly, but most of it can actually be blamed on ONI.

We don’ t know much about our real buddies on Sanghelious after The Thursday War, but from where that left us off, both sides are pretty weak but fighting is still in the Servants’ eyes.
And Sanghelious now has several large holes in it, thanks to Maggie test running Infinity.

It’s not really fair to blame on ONI. They just advanced Telcam’s plans

He had already ordered up an Engineer, and would have had to pay Kig-Yar for the amount of material he got from Osman.

So he would have started that civil war on his own.

ONI is totally to blame for Jul though, no doubts there.

I’m mainly wondering how Jul knowing about ONI’s “turn Sangheili against one another” plan will affect human-Sangheili relations. I doubt the Arbiter will overlook it if he gets wind of it. And if I were Jul, I’d make sure sending the Arbiter a memo would be one of the first thing I did.

We know he doesn’t have the majority of the Sangheili behind him though. Official description of Jul’s forces are of a faction of the wider Sangheili group, so he’s not operating with the majority of forces behind him. If the Arbiter knew and took offense to it, Jul wouldn’t just be working with colonial zealots, he’d have Sanghelios behind him as well.

Well it’s more like due to the incompetence of security from doctor Magnuson of ONI, Jul escaped.

“Friendly Sangheili” is an oxymoron at this point.

They’re having a pool-party and humanity isn’t invited. ONI just had to try to wipe them out…

I think the Arbiter, of all people, would be level-headed enough to know how complex and multi-headed a unified government can be. If he gains concrete information about humans inflicting casualties on his forces, I think he’s the type of guy to say “which humans did this, and which humans didn’t?” If he didn’t think that way, he probably never would’ve helped humanity to begin with. Unlike Jul, who blames all of humanity for ONI’s decisions.

That being said;has Thel ever really been shown as having this understanding? I think this is pretty good theory, but Im not sure hed be so accepting of attempted genocide…

He isn’t going to accept attempted genocide by some Humans, and so will persecute the Humans who were willing to look past his own species’ attempted genocide of them? He would also be incapable of applying the concept of diversity and civil strife to another species outside of his own; to Thel, all Humans think the same and all Humans behave the same. In other words, just turn Thel into yet another little Jul 'Mdama. I don’t think we really need any more of those archetypes, to be honest.

If even Thel can’t rise to this level of awareness then there’s no point in thinking that any Sangheili will, or even can. It actually makes his character completely pointless.

They are on Earth insulting Agent Washington by drawing funny pictures in the sand.

They forgot everything an Empire should know, lost an entire species, Fleets of ships and are just wandering their planet killing each other and going “hurr durr what to do-SHINY OBJECT!”

Jul doesn’t trust humans period, it isn’t just ONI. I don’t even think he knows the distinction. It’s funny if you think about it: ONI is trying to stop people like Jul from rising to attack humanity because they understand not all of the Elites have any love for humanity, and Jul is trying to destroy humanity because of the kind of manipulative humans ONI is made up of.

So they’re both trying to prevent each other from destroying their side for the exact reasons they ended up operating. ONI and Jul are both completely right in their beliefs.
