What's Up With Bungie.net?

Right now, we can still check our profiles, download files, and discuss Halo on Bungie.net, but what’s going to happen with them? Are they going to cut off all the content anytime soon, or will they always support Reach in this way? Because I’m still using Bungie.net more than Waypoint to download fileshare.

thats a good question i have no idea!!! I still use B.net to check stats! Its faster and straight to the point IMO

I’m sure since Reach was their game they will continue to allow the minimal support they have online now to continue. However don’t be surprised when features start dropping off. (Probably in the next 6-9 months). That’s a total guess, but yea. Wouldn’t shock me in the least bit.

I figure that 343i’s working continuously to add all the features that are available on Bungie.net to Waypoint, so when everything that’s available there is available here, they will drop the stat tracking support. As far as the Halo forums on Bnet, I’d assume they’d stick around for a while longer… maybe condense them all into one general Halo forum when Waypoint traffic picks up. I have a feeling all of this will take place as soon as Bungie releases their next IP.

Can you even access the fileshare on here? I’ve never seen it anywhere but B.net.

Yeah, I still use Bungie.net for most of the things that have to do with Halo. Screenshots, maps, film clips, game-types, groups, it’s still my #1 place to go. I hope that changes… soon.

Not yet. Hopefully some day we’ll be able to!

In March Bungie will start removing Halo based features. They have promised stats will remain on the site.

Considering how they no longer support Halo, it would not surprise me if they stop any/all support all together. It would kinda suck, as part of that includes the “link your gamertag to b-net” as a challenge, but hey that’s there decision.

It is sad, but just like all games, the ability to fully play the game eventually dies with its support (past-gen online games, for example).

Like many others have stated in this thread, I think it’s just a matter of time. As soon as Waypoint incorporates all the features that Bnet has, you’ll see those same features disappear from Bnet. In the meantime, they’ll continue to support what’s already there.

We’ve already seen the cusp of it with the re-organization of the game forums. I would expect some consolidation eventually. It’s all just part of the transition process. These things take time.

I will miss the stat tracking on Bnet though. It’s a really slick design.

I, too, will miss it. Waypoint doesn’t even show Legendary Medals yet >_<

Give it some time. They haven’t been in the driver’s seat all that long, and I’m sure they’re just getting warmed up.

Yes, eventually it will all be here. I actually would prefer 343 to completely drop support for Reach and Waypoint if it helped them make Halo 4 even better xD

I’m sure that’s not necessary. The teams that support Waypoint most likely have a different skillset than the ones developing H4. I understand the sentiment, but I’m sure that won’t be an issue.

Now with waypoint app and atlas maybe once we can access everything bungie.net has they will stop?

Lol, no it isn’t necessary, but it would be pretty funny if they did. “Hey guys, we’re gonna shut down the Reach servers in anticipation for Halo 4. Have fun with Halo 3 in the meantime.”
