Seriously, why so many needlers? Don’t get me wrong, I think the needler is one of the coolest weapons in the Halo universe, but is there any good reason as to why there are 7 weapons/vehicles that make use of needles and/or the supercombine effect? If you haven’t taken the time to note them, they include the Needler, Hailstorm, Talon of the Lost, Blood of Suban, White Scar, Razor’s Edge, and most recently the Sword Needler Warthog. Believe me, I love the gun as much as the next guy, but I can’t understand for the life of me why 343 has such a hard on for the thing.
This has been eating at me since the reveal of the Sword Needler Warthog and I’m genuinely curious to see what everybody has to say about this.
And one last thing: if any disagreements break out somehow, keep it civil, please and thank you. I like to see healthy discussions, not cutthroat debates.
It’s a cool weapon with a cool death animation.
I don’t see the issue.

I’m not saying it’s an issue. I’m just confused why 343 hasn’t branched out with these reqs. For example, the Razor’s Edge could have been something unique and interesting, but instead it is just a glorified needler. It’s like needles are their safety blanket (a rather pokey blanket) in regards to new reqs.

I imagine it’s a combination of it looking cool and an easy way to make a new REQ without having to create brand new assets.

They wouldn’t have had to make new assets, just tweak existing ones. Razor’s Edge could’ve been exaclty as it is except it’s projectiles and explosion could’ve been orange, it disintegrated the target, and it left a pulse grenade field behind or something. But instead, they just replaced a Needler’s model with a suppressor. It just feels lazy.
I get needlers out of the random weapon reqs all the time. Sometimes it gets annoying but still useful at close range.

That still requires modifying existing assets.

Then they’re just being lazy.
I like the extra additions, and would go so far as to say I wish they would take that useless plasma gunner turret off the Wraith and put a needler turret on it like they did the hog. Almost no one jumps in the secondary gunner seat of a Wraith cus that plasma turret is absolutely awful, and its practically useless unless someone stands right in front of the Wraith for you, or is injured and runs by then it might work. The needler turret would be a helpful upgrade I think. If it’s a little too good then fine, don’t put it on the basic Wraith, but please at least the Sword or Ultra Wraith.
