What's up with 343's rabid love of helmet bumps?

Honestly, it seems like a good number of helmets in this game have some sort of lump on top of them. Or in front of them.

I’m sure there are plenty of other examples of this, but these are the three I’ve selected. There seems to be this weird design decision that half the helmets in the game need to have a forehead bump. Have all the Spartan’s developed a second forehead from the Spartan Charges they’ve been getting, or is there something going on that I don’t know about?

Frankly, if I’d just have completed my Spartan training and someone handed me this, I’d probably forgo wearing it entirely.

I feel the same way about most of the helmets in Halo 5… And you are right, they seem to have a thing for overly prominent foreheads. Don’t forget about Nomad, Foehammer, and arguably Void Dancer. It’s just weird. I hope they learn how to design good-looking helmets before Halo 6 comes out.

Fenrir is also another “knucklehead” that deserves a mention. I’ll be honest, it’s half-decent for what it is. I used to wear it in my early days in Halo 5.

As did I.
My big complaint was that it had that ridiculous, shark-like bump. If it didn’t have that, I’d probably still be wearing it. The only reason I really liked it was because it was one of the few helmets I had at the start of the game to conceal my horrendously abhorrent Recruit visor in my early days.

It’s a real shame about that Fenrir helmet because I love the harlequin pattern on the Unchained variant’s body armor. If it wasn’t for that “knuckleheaded”, mouth-visored helmet, I’d wear it a lot more

The Fenrir armor is meh; I wore Defender (Fortress) instead. Surprisingly interesting combination if I do say so myself.

Defender is another one where I like the armor but the helmet kind of ruins it. I really don’t like how there’s a weird face in the visor. If I wanted a face-visor, which I don’t, I’d wear War Master.

I always thought the Tracer helmet was pretty bad. It doesn’t look like an issue from the front, but the side view of it is atrocious.

Looks like the body of the Big Daddy from BioShock…
343 seems to have trouble making helmet sizes accurate to what the rest of the body dictates the head size should be. Ever used the Atlas set? It’s like making yourself a bobblehead.

They could have solved this by using a dummy head model when creating the helmets, but they clearly didn’t. Not only because the sizes of the helmets are all over the place, but so is the alignment of their visors. Relative to other helmets, some of them would actually be where the Spartan’s forehead or nose would be. It drives me nuts
