Finished a game of Deadlock CTF and I ended with 54 kills and 15 deaths. After the game, some dude sent me a message saying “Thanks for turtling”.
I know it as an old term used chiefly for real-time strategy games. In a real-time strategy game, turtling is the strategy wherein you build as few units and expend as few resources as possible towards offense, focusing on defense as necessary while you research advancements that will allow you to unleash a massive assault at full power later.
At a guess, you were camping your own base in some way that allowed you to score all those kills, while your team captured a single flag and ran the clock down? That’s the only way I could think of the term applying to Halo.

Pretty much this. It basically means you were camping a certain area, so turtling = camping.

So is it a good thing or not?
Lol I was just running around, picking off people. Not a huge fan of camping. Thanks for the help tho
I’ve only heard that playing Dark Souls and it means that someone hides behind a high stamina great shield in pvp in attempt to take little to no damage and slowly pick away at your health with quick hits every so often when you run out stamina from trying to hit through the shield.
Turtling means you guys scored a single point, then just played defensively the whole game, running down the clock until you won.
Like A turtle, you figuratively pulled in your legs, arms and head and assumed a completely defensive posture.

Depends if ur com-ing or not. “Turtling” means advancing really slowly in objective matches, often if you have a power weapon, and setting up a big pull or playing support for a big pull in CTF.
First time i hear that term lol. To go 54 and 15 you had to of been sitting back at your base probably picking up every sniper as well.

No Snipers on Deadlock?
Turtling in Halo 5 can also mean securing an area and drifting around it picking off people if they pose a threat.

Sounds about right what I was doing. I was just running around, making sure the enemy didnt get close to my flag. I didnt stay in one spot the whole game, not my kind of style.

Both of these are actually part of the same correct answer. When a team turtles, common in CTF but not exclusive to, their ultimate goal is to use what little lead they have to win by playing defensively/safe to not jeopardize their foreseen win. In CTF, it’s common for teams that feel pressured by another decent team to stay back and defend their flag while running the clock down after scoring a point ahead. In Slayer you avoid death by securing a section of the map and running the clock down while in the lead.
Turtling is a tactic, there is nothing wrong with it.
Your team probably just had fun slaying and felt no need to go for the flag after a while

Thanks for clearing that up man
Turtling=a good idea, if you know the other team is competant.
