I’m still one of those people that believes the only thing that needs to be “nerfed” is the strafing with that damn lack of momentum and interia in the strafe. Looking unnatural as hell ice skating back and forth.
But what I’m seeing is a …sudden rise in threads saying “Nerf the Mangler” or " Don’t nerf it because etc etc". What’s going on? Did I miss something? If anything needs nerfing it’s the bouncing of the grenades in this nonsense.
The Mangler is classified as a pistol. This means that it spawns too frequently for the amount of power it gives the player.
My understanding is that a well coordinated team able to gain map control, can all run around with Manglers. Given how strong it is in close-mid range makes this a major issue.
Wrong. It is used in tandem with the BR. Fire, drop, burst, kill.
Pro players do not want the BR to be the only valid gun. They want it to be the baseline. The Onyx player I talk to daily, says “Use the rest of the guns, they’re better than the BR and that’s a good thing.”
Stalker Rifle is better.
Mangler is better.
Rockets are better.
AR is better.
Sidekick is better.
Shock Rifle is better.
Hydra is better.
Bulldog is better.
Heatwave is better.
Sentinel Beam is better.
Cindershot is better.
Needler is better.
Only things that aren’t, are like… The Pulse, Plasma Pistol, Commando and Disruptor.
But the thing is, the BR rewards skill, consistency and gives you something you can ACTUALLY defend yourslef with at basically any range in a 4v4, meaning you don’t HAVE to find something better to fight, you are never defenseless.
That is why they like the BR. Because it is the utility weapon that makes Halo work. If you’re a 7-burst kill player, you aren’t good. If you’re a 4-burst kill player consistently, you are very good. Same weapon, different methods of use and precision.
The primary reason I’ve seen given is that with the Banished Blade melee modifier, it outclasses the Bulldog/Heatwave in CQC with its 1shot/melee combo. Additionally, because it is a sidearm class weapon, it’s respawn timer from the weapon bays is a lot faster than almost everything else.
Mangler has been getting flak from pros since release, it has only got more pervasive as an issue (because its abused more now than it was at launch) so the discussion has trickled down to us common folk.
Mangler is basically Mauler+, you can outright 3 shot a player with it, or you can do 1/2 shots of Mangler then drop weapon and finish up with BR, or you can just use it as a 1sk beatdown weapon. Its bonkers for pro play. Arguably as good as actual power weapons (Bulldog, Sword, arguably close to PP and/or Pulse Carbine due to how it functions)
I doubt they’ll go for an outright nerf across all modes, they’ll probably just make it spawn less frequently or pull it off of certain maps altogether.
Are you M/K or controller? I’m curious about how controller players implement the drop-burst. You could map to D-pad but feels like a bad idea to take a thumb off the sticks. Do people just use controllers with extra paddles or whatever?
The drop Mangler + BR burst is extremely fun to use. I feel more frustration when people are running around with it for the 1-shot melee combo, but even then that’s incredibly fun to be on the other side of.
I hope it doesn’t get nerfed since it feels so great to use. In my opinion I’d much prefer a longer reset on it’s spawn, or having it placed on a tier 2 pad.
If you look at proximitty YouTube video from ‘yesterday?’ he gives good examples and good solutions.
Basically not nerfing the weapon itself but changing the pad to tier 2 (so only one on map at a time) and maybe only having one clip of ammo in ranked, similar to how they kept rockets and snipes impact down in H5 ranked, (4 sniper rounds, 2 rockets)
It won’t affect the weapon but won’t negatively affect gameplay so much at the high level.
