What's The Weird Console At The End of Delta Halo?

So I was playing the Halo 2 remaster, and goofing around getting out of bounds and exploring levels when I found something strange after the technical end of the mission on Delta Halo. I got out of bounds right at the start of the level and walked over the mountains, skipping everything and passing spawns, and eventually made it to the towers where the mission would normally end after killing some honor guards. Because I had skipped past everything the mission didn’t end so I continued exploring and through some creative platforming and grenade jumping made it out of the room, on top of the tower, and then out to the area where the next mission begins. I went over to the courtyard area where you would fight some hunters and where the gondola comes in during the Regret mission when I noticed a strange looking console near where the gondola will eventually be. It looks like a keypad with a screen next to it and it’s just floating out in the air, just out of reach. You can always see it with the remastered graphics, but only when scoped in with the old graphics. It is physical, I shot at it and the bullets made contact, though you can’t get close enough to see if there is any interaction. Without grenade jumping to your watery death that is.

Any ideas as to what this console thing is? I don’t think it is an Easter egg because I couldn’t figure out what to do with it, or if it was a reference I didn’t get it, and I very much broke the level and surpassed “hidden, cool thing”. My guess is that it has something to do with the level’s programming/function, but I don’t know anything about video game development so that’s just a guess.

I don’t know that it matters, but I was on Legendary with no skulls on. I was still in the Delta Halo mission, but the physical location was actually the starting area in the Regret mission.

If anyone knows or has ideas feel free to share.

It’s the button or switch or whatever for the gondola. Just one of quite a few graphical bugs.

Placeholder for the next mission. It’s likely that during development the level was split into two (Delta Halo is known as 05a_Deltaapproach and Regret as 05b_Deltatowers) and as a result, that was left in place for reference.

Disclaimer - I make those assumptions based on the map names.

Have you or can you link a pic/screenshot?

I used to have multiple screenshots of this. Give me another hour from this post and I’ll get you one on Xbox One MCC. Will update this post accordingly.

EDIT - Multiple screenshots from different angles on my Xbox profile. Alternatively, here is a screenshot to my twitter showing the keypad OP is referring to in Delta Halo:

In the link above, I tried to catch the Gondola’s as well as show the keypad location to show the exact location for anyone who is interested. You can get here by grenade jumping with Sputnik out of the end of Delta Halo to access parts of Regret. As mentioned in my earlier post, I believe this to be a placeholder, since both Delta Halo and Regret are referred to as 05a_Deltaapproach and 05b_Deltatowers in the games map files, implying to me that they used to be one map in development, which was changed. However, I must stress that this is speculation on my part. There are only a handful of other levels in Halo 2 that are referred to as a pair, Outskirts and Metropolis being an example (03a_Oldmombassa and 03b_Newmombassa respectively)

this has been found by other players also, to my knowledge nobody has figured out what the switch does.

it could be anything, placeholder, something scrapped and hidden there since its easier for the devs to hide something rather than delete it (because it could easily create a bug)
Btw, a mission called “Forerunner Tank” was cut from h2, that was supposed to be set after Delta Halo "The level would have described the Master Chief’s adventure through the bowels of Delta Halo before his eventual capture by the Gravemind;" that switch could be a leftover from that mission…sadly we’ll never know

Looks and sounds like something that someone needs to figure out how to get to so we can figure out what it is and if it does anything. Who knows, maybe it’s an undiscovered easter egg!

Yeah I mean it’s in both H2X and H2V as well and as expected it was in MCC too. From memory, the keypad does nothing though with regular player means, the best you can do is co-op with Sputnik and grenade jump over there although if my memory hasn’t failed me since 2004-7, the keypad does nothing, hence why I believe it to be a placeholder for Regret in development.

Still, I couldn’t find any pictures for an example, which is why I was surprised about this thread because I thought the keypad was known about already.

Who knows, maybe something has been added with MCC to give hunters some sort of incentive to look harder and try harder at finding all the games easter eggs

That’s an interesting idea, I’d love to see if people can find a way to get to the keypad although I think it’s best to do with 2 players.

I know the keypad does nothing in H2X and H2V but I didn’t experiment with it on MCC, only went there to get a screenshot for this thread.

anyone remember when H2 was released and there was a big hunt to find out what the arch was for underwater?

im going to try and find the youtube video for it.

Maybe the Rooster Teeth guy’s will pick it up or some hardcore Easter Egg hunters

Wasn’t that one of those things that people associated with trigates back in the Halo 2 days? I’ve seen it too when I went past the building at the end of Delta Halo on MCC. I think General Heed / Generalkidd did a video on that and determined it doesn’t do anything spectacular. So it is truly just a place holder as other have said (unless it is the most hidden Easter egg in Halo history).

check out GeneralKidd on youtube, he has a lot of awesome videos about this type of stuff.
