If they are re-creating it, they should at least fix up the repetitive level design. Instead of just copy/pasting the whole game with new graphics. Screw the library, and screw nostalgia. If they are going to remake something they should tweak some of the major problems in the game. The game won’t stand up to everyones memories unless they make some major tweaks to the campaign. And whats the point of buying the same game again anyway? 343 should at least make it better then before.
First of all watch what you say about CE. Second, if you change anything then its not the same game people loved so much. 343i is just doing it to get a good grib on the series, get a few fans pumped for H4 and plus they had to do something for 10 years of halo.

Yeh, new fans are gonna love 10 year old repetitive level design.

You’d be surprised.
More on topic: While the layout of the actual level is unchanged, 343 has indicated that levels like the library have been made to be more easily navigable. I would image that other such changes will be made.
You’re fired.
You’re implying that the fact that the levels sometime repeated themselves that people didn’t love it. It’s the best campaign in my oppinion and many others and why would they go and change a game that people love so much.
It’s a remake with the sole purpose of updating the graphics because it would be a welcomed change. Changing the levels would not at all (In my oppinion).

HCEA is NOT a remake. Tomb Raider Anniversary is a remake; it’s the first TR’s story re-created in a completely new game with changed level design, new puzzles, and so on.
HCEA is “only” the same game again with a new graphics engine on top of it and a few more or less minor changes such as support for 16:9 aspect ratio, online co-op, remastered audio, achievements, etc.

In other words, I’d say it’s a 60% remake.
OT: The level designs don’t have to be changed. They can be creative with it and make each section look different than the other using the new graphics layer.
343 is using the game’s new aesthetic to eradicate the repetitiveness of some of the levels, I would imagine. Making rooms look more distinguished, for example. They’ve already talked about that, with regards to The Library. CEA is more a ‘remarstered’ experience, than a ‘remake’. Saying that, it has a lot of additional content as well. Let’s wait till after Halo Fest to fully judge the package, eh.

I’ve said something to that effect myself. Except for me it’s not SO much level design. It’s more things like the AR (which Bungie themselves had said acted too much like a Submachine gun than what it should be). IMO there are some things that could stand to be changed for the better; HALO CE was good for it’s time, but it could stand to be improved to an extent. Even if some of those tweaks are made optional or something.
Halo CE had some of the best levels of the Halo series ever. And no, that’s not nostalgia speaking. I’ve been back on it since Halo Reach and I thought it had better level design than Reach and Halo 3 put together.

No… Tomb Raider Anniversary is a re-imagining (eg make big changes with story, gameplay ect)
Halo CEA is a re-make (eg make it again so its as close to the original with small tweaks)
so Halo: CEA IS a re-make

Yeah, this.
Remake = Pretty much the same game with updated graphics.
Reboot = Exactly what the name says. A fresh start with the same game series.
I wanted 343 to tweak some mechanics as well…
Here’s a list of fixes I wanted to see for the Campaign:
- Make Vehicles drive smoother (Reach-style would be perfect)
- Add boosting to Ghost, Wraith and Banshee
- Add drivable Wraith
- Fix clunky controls
- Make the game itself smoother, i.e. aiming feels weird and outdated in CE
That would be it.
It’s a remake (not a reboot, as stated before, because it’s the same game but remade, not a new interpretation for a new beginning, like Prince of Persia: Prodigy or Tom Raider), so you can think it doesn’t add anything to the story.
But I think is necerssary at this point, were the canon has adopted so many changes (mostly about appearance) that this game has to accept them (like the new Anniversary MARK V armor, which is similar to the one in the cover of the new redition of Halo: The Flood, if someone has noticed); and another big reason is that the graphics are very outdated nowadays and the newer fans aren’t going to enjoy them as we did 10 years ago.

I like repetitive level design, OP.

The Library was a linear mission, how can they make it easier to navigate?
I agree, people only think Halo CE was great because of nostalgia, it had the most bugs and glitches out of all the Halo games, excluding Reach.
> I agree, people only think Halo CE was great because of nostalgia, it had the most bugs and glitches out of all the Halo games, excluding Reach.
I think you’re a tad misled. As far as bugs and glitches go, Halo 2 definitely takes the cake, being a half-finished mess of a game. Reach is actually probably the most stable, as the soft and hard kill zones have flawlessly kept people in maps, there aren’t any BXR-like maneuvers, etc. I believe that’s pretty closely followed by Combat Evolved, where the exploits typically just involved getting out of the level. Then again, that pretty well defines Halo 3 as well, so they’re pretty much at the same level.
Point being, Reach doesn’t have anywhere near the amount of glitches as the other Halo games, and Combat Evolved followed close behind it as the least conventionally glitchy, while Halo 2 was definitely most buggy and glitchy of them all.
On topic: Anniversary is being made because Combat Evolved is awesome, and people like me are eating this fan service up. I still personally regularly go back and play Combat Evolved, and I don’t think there’s anything majorly wrong with the game as far as level design goes. It’s repetitive, not broken. But it adds to the feeling of continuity overall, to make it feel like these locales take place on the same ringworld. That’s my opinion, anyways.
They aren’t recreating it. They’re just taking the original and giving it a well-deserved graphical enhancement. The only thing changing is the looks and hidden terminals. Everything else is exactly the same as the original all the way down to gameplay. The reason they’re keeping it the same is b/c this game has such a huge fanbase as opposed to modern Halo games. It redefined what video games could be back in it’s day and b/c of that this game has stood the test of time. It even feels like a modern shooter with the graphical enhancement.
