Listen, realistically I’m a mid-diamond at best right now. I can definitely get to Onyx with practice but I ain’t there yet… But the thing is you really can’t expect to win every fight. Even my buddy Dex, who’s like… REALLY really good, knows that sometimes, you’re just gonna’ lose.

Isn’t this thread kind of moot? Didn’t they say they were reworking the system and resetting everyone’s rank soon-ish?
I have no malice towards you however I do have pretty strong opinions outside of this, if you ever wanted to exchange ideas on exactly what, then I’m all for that. I rather you understand where I come from rather than think I don’t like you or something
I think the core system is the same, they’re just planning on separating players out a bit more. Most players might find their CSR is lower than it was before so this could be a volatile move but a necessary one to ensure ranking is working as intended from a visual perspective as majority of players will be looking at visible ranks, not understanding that matchmaking is based off of MMR.
Splitgate had to do the same thing.
It’s possible they could rework the metrics for which MMR Is being measured also.
The current state of the ranked playlist is joyless., which is a shame.

It is wasted time because there is no long term enjoyment from it. Moreover, the algorithm will be changing soon. There is no point in playing Ranked until after the change. If there is no significant difference after the update, then I won’t play Ranked anymore.

Sounds like you need an XP rank to grind. Hopefully they bring one in that is weighted to wins, medals, and objective scores. And with some sort of military rank for nostalgia.
But if you are expecting the ranking update to change the ranking system so that you rank up with any win (eg. vs lower teams) - you are going to be very disappointed.
Ya’ll must be new to how general MMR works. The higher you go the less you earn and the more you lose. Its supposed to work that way. If it didn’t it would make it way too easy to climb and way too hard to equalize your rank. If you peak you peak, that’s all there is to it. Only way to climb is to be absolutely better than everyone else in the lobby which at that point the ratings get adjusted to move you up. If you lose then it adjusted you too much and you drop appropriately.
Regardless of how good or bad Halo’s version of MMR is, its general principle is the same.

WOW. This is why ranking has always been broken. Players shouldn’t be taking points from you. If that were the case then why can you be 1556 at the same time as someone else? 1556 or any number for that matter should be a place in line. If someone takes your points then you should be placed accordingly in this line.
But since it’s not like that and your score is independent of everyone elses then nobody should be taking points from you.
That article is a mess. It over complicates something that should be simple.
It should be like this
There are an infinite amount of “spots”. Someone has the number spot and someone has the 1,367 spot. When you win a game you move to the 1,366 spot. If you loose a game right after that then you go back to 1,367 and so on.
If that’s what you got out of it then you should probably stop playing ranked modes in any game.

I mean, to be fair, fighting an uphill battle IS the point of ranked. If all ranked was just curbstomping people worse than you are, then there would be no point
Why bother when you don’t understand its basic concepts? Ranked isn’t supposed to be a smooth progression. You have to actually play better to rank up and if 343 actually fixes their CSR you’re gonna be in for a rude awaking in the mid season reset when you can’t get back to onyx with that negative KDA stat.
