I currently play Halo Wars as a backwards compatible title in my Xbox One. Obviously, it takes a very long time to find 3v3 matches due to the very low player count. I’m thinking of buying Halo Wars Definitive Edition but I want to know a rough estimate of how many people are still playing it and how easy it is to find multiplayer matches.
Not sure about the player count, but I always thought it was kind of sad to see them split what was left of the original HW playerbase by releasing HW DE. Seemed like a nail in the coffin to me.
I played it at the end of 2017 to get all the multiplayer achievements with my friend. It took much longer to find other players in DE than in the original Halo Wars. I can’t imagine the player count has gone up since then. I suggest playing the original instead. DE looks better for sure, but it has weird physics bugs, the framerate is inconsistent, and connecting to a game (private or matchmaking) takes a lot of tinkering.
Okay. Thanks, y’all. I went ahead and bought it because it was on sale. Right away, I don’t like the way the multiplayer is structured. I preferred the random nature of the Xbox 360 version. In this one, everyone can see what rank you are and what leader you pick before a match starts. High ranks always leave or cluster to one team when they see a low rank. It’s so annoying because many low ranks on the DE version are veterans from the 360 version and are actually Generals.
