There is only one thing I really want from Halo 6, but first I would like to clarify a few things.
First of all, I haven’t played any Halo games for over a year. And I really hate to say it, but after Halo 5 my love of the series is not as strong as it was before. I was never a dedicated multiplayer, it was always the campaign and story that attracted me the most. I won’t talk too much about Halo 5, but ‘The Act Man’s’ youtube series linked below perfectly describes my views:
I loved Halo 4, I admit it took me a couple of playthroughs to really appreciate the story, but I still enjoyed it. I actually liked the Prometheans in Halo 4 more than 5. They had an interesting back story and I was hoping they were going to expand on that.
I was never too bothered by the different play style of 343’s games compared to Bungie’s (Boosters, Abilities, wall climbing etc). You do expect changes in new games and I can see why some people like the changes and others didn’t but the sad truth is:
You can please some people all the time
You can please most people some of the time
But you can’t please everyone all the time.
I am not a big fan of the direction the story is taking. I have never been a big fan of AI Rebellion stories and I was disappointed the Prometheans are more like robots than what they were in Halo 4. But that’s the story and it can’t be changed. Hopefully Halo 6 will go deeper into what is happening.
But, back to the point of this post. They only thing I want in Halo 6:
’Do something about Cortana!'
She was one of my favourite characters from the franchise both as support and comic relief. And her relationship with the Master Chief was always heart-warming. And her death really hit me. For a while it was my only complaint about Halo 4.
Then Halo 5 came and now… I HATE HER! I DON’T AGREE WITH HER GOALS, I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR HER, I KEEP TRYING TO TELL MYSELF THAT THE CORTANA I GREW UP REALLY DID DIE AND THIS… MOCKERY IS EITHER CONTROLLED BY SOMEONE ELSE OR IS JUST A FRAGMENT OF THE ORIGINAL!! I never thought my opinions of a character could change so quickly.
Bringing her back took away the drama of her death from the previous game, but turning her into the villain just ruined for me. Maybe if why she is evil was better explained in the game it would not have been so bad. AND YES SHE IS EVIL, NO COMPARISONS TO HALSEY!
(Sigh)
Anyway, as I said I’m not too fond of the whole Created Arc, but if it has to continue after Halo 6, I only hope that in the next game Cortana will either be redeemed or killed. Because I really do not want to see her current character in anymore Halo games after 6. Unless they are prequels of course.
