I’ve been meaning to set up XBC for ages and I just want to know what the playerbase for it is like.
It’s ridiculously low, actually. Almost not worth trying.

Sounds like Halo 4

There are like… 5 people playing Halo 2 on XBC at any given time. As terrible as Halo 4 is, at least you can find a game (though never a very enjoyable one). I just play Halo 3 as it’s the next best thing to Halo 2.
Try friday nights and weekends.
There are lots of servers up with a decent amount of people on it.
During the week, though, it’s phantom town.
I thought they shut down the servers for Halo 2…?

XBC is a non-official way of playing original xbox games online. So yes, the official Halo 2 xbox servers are down, but the XBC and PC ones are still up.
It works like LAN Parties do.
You even use the “system link” menu to play.
thats a shame Halo 2 is dead for multiplayer even on XBC. I would still play it if xbox live still supported it …

With all the modders and glitches there?

If you don’t mind playing BR/Snipers starts or BR only on Lockout against maybe 2 other people by all means download it. However, if you plan on wanting to play any other map with the rare exception of Midship you might as well avoid it. If you’re a fan of big team games you have essentially 0 chance of ever getting into a match with more than 8 players. Even when you do get in a match with more than 5 players it usually tends to lag.
My suggestion, download it anyway. The more people decide to avoid downloading the less of a community their is. It’s not that difficult to set up and it’s worth it in the long run. If more people would just take the 10-20 minutes out of their day to set XBC up maybe more interesting games would happen. To be honest, I might go to several friends homes here in the next month and set XBC up for them. Any extra people would certainly benefit XBC.
