I’ve seen the armour coatings/outline system/fracture armours are a point of contention here, but not seen as many comments about armour effects.
For those that may not be aware, they were introduced in Halo 3 as a Bungie employee only fire around the helmet, Reach introduced them for general players as fire, electricity, stinky cloud (my least favourite), cartoon hearts, or the grunt birthday party which makes a noise and has confetti come out of the player upon death.
I feel like they offer a lot of customisation options for players, but I can’t help hating them in game. Find them kind of distracting. They seem to have taken great care to ensure the Mythic armour fits aesthetically into the Halo world and it doesn’t look out of place in the game from an artistic perspective. Just really hope they have redesigned the armour effects too so they don’t look so stylistically out of place. For some reason I think they will be a hot seller on the in-game store so good chance they will be everywhere in the game if there are a lot of them. Can’t pretend I’d be completely opposed to one myself if it looks good, just kind of hope they are designed well.

they don’t bother me too much, as long as they’re not super flamboyant. Mostly if I’m trying to BR someone cross map and my teamate walks by me and all i see is a green cloud and flies fill up my screen, that’s a problem.
Meh. To me the new system for obtaining cosmetics makes them less appealing than how they were in OG Halo Reach. In those days it felt like a reward for the many hours spent grinding, a token of a decently skilled player (if not toxic lol), or if you were a cool kid for downloading the Bungie app that gave you eternal flame.
Now, it just feels like another accessory to player expression and nothing anymore special than that. As unrealistic they are, it’s just “special effects” and doesn’t damage the Halo art style or take away from the immersion as some wild armor designs. So, I couldn’t be bothered seeing these effects used in games, but that’s just me.

yeah, they used to be harder to get. Now you can unlock them just by playing FF for hours on end.

Or doing the challenge glitch which I am twice guilty of getting temp bans for😅 Good times

I did not catch on until the second time and I realized I was too close to Inheritor to risk it again, so I instead abused Halo Waypoint’s custom challenges. Much to say I learned my lesson, more or less

If we’re talking about how it works with the game, for me has the same expression than the new armours that 343 added to MCC. Don’t fit. It’s not Halo in that sense and the realistic aesthetic of the sci-fi thing get lost. BUT, I don’t care about it. If there’ll any armour effect that I like on Infinite, I’ll use it as I use the new armours on the tech prew of season 8. It just for fun, doesn’t have to be too real and match with everything that happend in Halo. I mean, comme on, there’s a real Spartan that after dies explodes in a bunch of hearts? Why I can’t use a Loki helmet as I enjoy the flames?
I personally hate armor effects. Some less than others, fire on the helmet doesn’t annoy me quite like the grunt birthday party does. But I can’t stand them. I’m not a die hard OG Halo armor guy that goes nuts over goofy stuff. Funky armors, whatever sure, go crazy. But the armor effects can be incredibly distracting to me during the actual gameplay, and if are implemented I really hope have an on/off switch accompanying them.

They’re inoffensive and I personally don’t find them too distracting. I think most people are cool with armor effects and would love to see some new ones.
Off topic but, I’d love a green fire effect for your helmet (maybe for a Halloween event? We know they already made a Snowman helmet).

What about a sound effect? After seing a lot of pics on Twitter with the new skull helmet and the “ehehehehehe” from Skeletor, I wonder if it could be an any sound effects after dying like that laugh. Could be funny

Sound effects would be great too. Most people like the Confetti armor effect.
I’d like a variant of Heart Attack (my favorite) with some ghosts that fly out of you from time to time, and then have a bunch of them fly out and start wailing when you die (If they made sounds all the time it would give you away to other players lol).

i like armor effects. They’ve never been distracting to me at all personally.
Honestly I’m fine with the ones that dont make noise. I once lost a killing spree because i killed someone who had grunt birthday party on in MCC Reach and it alerted the entire enemy team to my presence.

Agreed! I think that the customization options should all be canon. If multiplayer was more serious and immersive I would love to play it!
Personally I prefer the on-death effects to things like flaming helmets. I am aware that the Halo 3 flame effect was the original, but it has always seemed goofy to me. At least the on-death stuff only hangs around for a few seconds.
I’d prefer no armour effects at all, however the range offered in Reach was tolerable, but I fear that as the seasons progress in Infinite they will scrounge for more and more content to fill up the pass, leading to ever more bizarre and intrusive armour effects. I don’t want the game to end up looking like post-Mann-conomy TF2
As an old school gamer that tries to find moments enjoying some games with friends while juggling family and work responsibilities I can say playing an FPS is intense enough without al the carnaval theatrics. However it’s very logical that the current and new generations of gamers are accustomed to more cosmetic possibilities and don’t really identify that much with a single game series.
I grew up with Halo and Warcraft so that classic look and sound from those games are something I identify with and can feel nostalgic about. For example even in halo 5 me and friends went to a lot of effort to make lock-out and Hang em High just because for us it’s like coming home.
I think that specific feeling of bonding with a game has transitioned to bonding with a community and expressing yourself how you like. That’s a major point that fortnite achieves; everyone can join and even represent their own way (even by using cosmetics from other games they like).
So if Halo wants to become a similar community platform for gamers I guess this expression aspect is very important for players. Can I personally identify with a Spartan with a Viking fur helmet, samurai sword and floating hearts? Not really. Will it stimulate new players to bond with the game and it’s community? Very probably!
All I hope that when you show someone a random screenshot it will still be identifiable as Halo and not a random sci-fi shooter. Imaging a scene with a first person view of a sidekick looking at a samurai and next to it a confetti explosion that might be hard. However replace the sidekick with the needler and put the samurai in the warthog and suddenly their is no doubt no matter the cosmetics.
TLDR; player expression (even armour effects) will probably be a key factor in building a strong durable halo community but let’s hope it’s visual presence is balanced around not disrupting gameplay and the game still being identifiable as Halo and not a random sci-fi FPS
