What's the Domain in Halo 4?

Does anyone know the Domain in Halo 4 is? Cause in Silentium it’s revealed that the Domain is the Organon built by the Precursors. Now the Gravemind tells The Librarian that activating the Halos will destroy the Domain/Organon due to it being in Precursor structures, which would get destroyed. The Librarian intended to have The Didact access the Domain while imprisoned on Requiem. She learned the truth about the Organon/Domain right before the Halos activated, leaving The Didact alone with his thoughts. My question is, what is the Domain in Halo 4? How this survive the blast of the Halos?

The Domain supposedly didn’t survive the Halo firing, as Cortana’s dialogue in the second mission implies:

> “This node is caught in a loop trying to access something it’s calling ‘the Domain’, an offworld data repository of some kind, though I’m only able to extract bits and pieces of the complete exchange… I’ll log it for investigation later.”

Interesting that the Domain is referred to as an “offworld data repository” though, perhaps it’s just Cortana’s ignorance but it makes me think of the organic Domain in Path Kethona.

they were just terminals

Where was that line from Cortana? I don’t remember it.

And though they were called Domain terminals, I think it was just called that as to signify a place for information. Doubt that the Domain would still be active, unless something on Requiem affected part of it? No, because the Domain is whole, and either way, Requiem is gone now anyway.

She says it when you access the first Domain terminal.

Cortana says that it “keeps trying”, implying that it cannot access the Domain. Think of the terminals as Computers trying to access a cloud storage network, but the network it not accessible. Each computer (terminal) would still be accessible, along with any information (terminal videos) on them.

Woops on my part, seems pretty straightforward now, thanks.

I only thought of it when I saw that quote from Cortana. I had completely forgotten about it until I saw, and then it’s like “click!”, and it all made sense.

I believe the Halo 4 Terminals, as Cortana said, were trying to access the Domain.

They were waiting to add the information (videos) contained in them to the Domain, but of course the Domain broke down.

Since the Gravemind in Halo 2 and Halo 3 seems to know things about history long passed, then that could imply that the Domain survived.

The Primordial may have been lying about the nature of the Domain in a last ditch effort to convince the Forerunners not to fire Halo, or he may have simply been incorrect. Or perhaps there is more than one Domain or the Domain can repair itself or it survives in some partially damaged state.

That wouldn’t make sense as the array had already fired two hours before Forthencho appeared.

the gravemind knows about the past because of the collective mind and knowledge of the flood, the halo 2/3 gravemind is essentially the same entity that destroyed the forerunners and the primordial

It would be pretty dumb for them to lie about something as important as the Domain being the Organon and being destroyed by the Halo Array.

The Librarian said that the Didact was supposed to use the Domain in his Cryptum to reverse his corruption and madness. But when he was reawakened he hadn’t changed… he actually became worse. This heavily implies that the Domain has been destroyed or hasn’t repaired itself after 100,000 years.

And also I believe the Flood use some kind of link of themselves and share a collective mind. Not the Domain.
Meaning the Gravemind in Halo 2/3 had the memories from the Forerunner-Flood War.
