I’ve been wondering for a good bit now what the cannon difference between the Halo 2 and 3 ODST armor is, you’d think it would be because 3 takes place after 2 (I know big lore drop) and that would simply be the next upgrade for the armor, but since the Halo 3 variant is also seen in Reach that wouldn’t make any sense, any ideas?
Much like the transition from the Halo 3 Covenant designs to the Halo 4 ones, I just put it down to artistic differences. I don’t think there is actually any lore between the two unless the ODST armour seen in Halo 2 was unique to In Amber Clad.

Entirely agree here. Given how the war had been going for humanity materiel and supply issues are entirely possible, it’s quite possible In Amber Clad’s troops hadn’t received new equipment - remember Reach and Halo 2 are only 2 months apart so it’s not that long. Plus Reach was humanity’s main materiel and production base so the troops there may have been the first to receive such equipment.
I’m also not clear on In Amber Clad’s deployment history prior to Cairo Station - they may just not have resupplied in a while
I dont believe it was do to timely artistic choice as Halo kept the armor in Halo2A (though it is possible they were simply honoring the games past), and maby the armor was specific to Amber Clad, but from what was suggested it might make more sense that they had not received more equipment at that point (unlike the Bullfrogs). I appreciate the input as you’ve given me a few more ways to think about it.
In Fireteam Raven Silva is seen wearing the Halo 2 variant while Raven wear the Halo 3 style of armour. The Halo 2 version also appeared in Hunt the Truth, so it seems both versions exist side by side. The Reach description suggests that the Halo 3 style started as a Mjolnir helmet and was then adapted for use by other groups.
Not to be controdicting but silva’s helmet is far closer to the halo 3 variant but I can see some smaller resemblance to the halo 2 variant. I do agree that both helmets did exist at the same time, as there whould have to be some weird alternate uneverse crap to explain it otherwise. My question thogh is why the difrence, wich may have been anwserd above.

Indeed, even post-war you see some significant variability in equipment for personal reasons. As I recall, the Owl crew had some fairly old/nonstandard or even possibly Innie weapons?
Someone - either the ODSTs we see in every other game or the ones in H2 - probably just had older equipment. The UNSC is massive, not everyone is going to get issued the latest equipment.

I’ve not played Fireteam Raven, so can’t speak about whether Silva is ever seen in a helmet, but in the images that they released for the game Silva is seen wearing the Halo 2 variant as opposed to the more Halo 3 style of the Raven members.
I don’t believe they have ever actually stated a reason for any difference, or even acknowledged it in writing but Fireteam Raven shows us that both variants can exist in the same unit, and neither is unique to a particular ship as suggested above.
I can’t tell you what the difference is but it would be cool to see both the older gen ODST armor from halo 2 and the newer gen from 3 side by side on the battlefield

My bad I went back and checked, I was thinking about a diffrent ODST.
