Whats the deal with the DMR Hate?

I have played every halo, I was one of those Lan Party guys back in CE, Now i find myself in H4 reading everyone’s “DMR Needs BUFF QQ”
Whats the big issue? I use both and to be honest BR Wrecks kids Mid and close range, DMR is Amazing when trying to shoot from a distance, BR & DMR are perfectly fine, Carbine however … yeah that thing could use a minor Buff.

I have no problem with the DMR at close or mid range, let the best man win. On the other hand, long range needs some sort or nerf…There’s no movement on maps like Ragnarok. When it’s essentially an open map, if you run out in the open with mini-snipers with hit-scan everywhere you die.

“But that’s you being stupid though, don’t run out in the open?”
Ok, so everyone should just be stuck on either side of the map and the only way to move is around parts of the edges? That sounds enjoyable.

First, there needs to be unscoping.
It’s been in every Halo game up to this point for a reason. It adds a level of skill to long range battles rather than just shooting at each other at long ranges. It allows a chance for a player with the lesser hand to reset the battle if they know how to play it well, another level of skill missing.

Next, I know this is impossible to implement and Halo 3 had a lot of problems with it, but to correct long range battles the DMR should have led shooting. Don’t know how to word this, but you know how long range battles in Halo 3 you had to lead with your BR shots at long range but not at short? Same should be for the DMR (actually, all of the mini snipers in the game). Adds another level of skill, takes the kill time down a bit.

I just think on open maps the DMR and specifically the DMR team shot kill times are way too short. Pop your head out or try to move a little bit, less than two seconds you’re dead. This should not be the case at all.

long range DMR is just too good.

DMR is fine as is. Adapt people.

buff the carbine

> DMR is fine as is. Adapt people.

Agreeing with this, it is literally survival of the fittest, use what you got and use it effectively

The thing is that the BR doesn’t “own” the DMR at close/mid ranges. It sure can, but saying it does 100% of the time is absolutely incorrect and is actually just the opposite. The amount of times I have won close range DMR vs BR fights using the DMR is really high. Maybe I’m the only one?

The only hate the DMR deserves is how good it is at close range for being a weapon made for mid/long range combat. The slightest rate of fire nerf to make it so the BR/LR/CC actually beat it consistently close range would make the game a lot more interesting

> DMR is fine as is. Adapt people.

Knew someone was going to say this. However, this time is completely fine. The DMR is not as bad as everybody is saying it is, and it cracks me up seeing 75% of people using the thing.

Weatherwar is right, BTB with mini snipers like the DMR and light rifle just cause for stagnant gameplay, especially on Ragnorok and especially with both teams having snipers and ordinences like binary rifles or more sniper. There is hardly ANY movement at all unless somebody finds a vehicle for a short period, and it usually is a short period of time.

I am really fed up with people saying ¨the DMR is fine, it’s not overpowered¨. It IS overpowered, just like: the Assualt Rifle, the Jetpack and spawning with Plasma Grenades and the Plasm Pistol. Evidence? Go on to forge, spawn a DMR, BR, Covenant Carbine and Light Rifle. then using what ever, a stopwatch on your phone or whatever, fire shots into a friend and time the kill time. They are all very similar. The difference with the DMR comes into play in actual combat. Like the Sniper Rifle, it has a high caliber. higher than all the other precision loadout rifles. Beacause 343 added the flinch and move slower when shot, the DMR knocks your aim of centre, but it’s high caliber makes it cause more flinch than the other rifles. that is why it is overpowered. be it at range or close quarters it will knock your aim and you are made less accurate. This inclusion of flinch and moving slower when your being shot is highly unfair and also, another copied feature from, you guessed it, CoD. Why didn’t they leave it as you come out your scope like in the previous games? why all this B.S. of moving slower when getting shot? if I was a spartan in a massive suit of armour, thats not what I would do.

Now the Assualt Rifle. This Weapon is VERY overpowered. Proof: go on to forge, spawn a Assualt Rifle and Storm Rifle. then count the amount of shots it takes to break the shields with both weapons. you will find it is 10 shots with BOTH weapons. Now, i’m fairly sure that it has been a long standing Halo formula that [Ballistic Bullets -Shields +Health] [Superheated Plasma +Shields -Health] so WTF? also, the bonus against health still applies to the Assualt Rifle so it still wrecks your health, rendering you helpless.

Jetpack: Fairly simple reason for it’s Overpoweredness. straight up in the air, instat arial advantage.

Spawning with Plasma Grenades: Granadier and Explosives. The combonation of these 3 loadout items is a recipie for destruction. it is the ultimate spamming loadout, and is it just me, or do Plasma Grenades love to lock on to players and lag stick them in Halo 4?

Spawning with the Plasma Pistol: Just plain annoying. One of the most fun and (until Battlefield) unique parts about Halo was it’s vechicles. Now, I know alot of people who all agree on this. A Plasm Pistol as a loadout weapon was a bad idea, because of the Plasm Grenade spawning as I previously mentioned, means that it is way to easy to kill vechicles. And wheelman doesn’t help that much.

All in all? I don’t hate Halo 4, It has it’s moments for me. But it has become to unbalanced, there is to much OP stuff, and to many people who exploit it. And like all other games, those who exploit it will never admit it is overpowered. 343 has made a game that has basically taken Halo 3, Halo: Reach and CoD, put them all in a blender and made a sweet and sour smoothie.

Use the BR for smaller maps (Adrift, Haven), and the DMR for larger maps. Adapting is the thing to do. Stra-tee-gery. The gun is available to everyone, if it wasn’t then it would be an issue. I know people who use it and do just fine with the BR. I usually run with the DMR, but I have a class or two using the BR and I do just fine with it when it’s appropriate to use it.

The NBA won’t make a ball smaller if you have small hands, so don’t expect 343i to nerf the DMR if you suck at aiming.

DMR is designed for mid to long range. So is a sniper. But you can no-scope someone 3 feet away and still get a one shot kill with a sniper. Should we make that a two or three shot kill since it’s not a short range weapon?

The Lightrifle is the DMR’s counterpart.

> The Lightrifle is the DMR’s counterpart.

False.

The Lightrifle is a mix between the BR and DMR and was meant to cater to both BR and DMR users.

That went well.

DMR has too much power at all ranges with no recoil, the bullet magnet, and last but not least, the rifle beats every other precision rifle.

> The Lightrifle is the DMR’s counterpart.

I dare you to use the LR against the DMR. See how well that goes for you. While your running away to your mom the bullet magnet will score a headshot on you.

> The Lightrifle is the DMR’s counterpart.

Except the DMR has significantly more range.

These are both opinions.

Here is what the description of the LR says:

The Z-250 LightRifle was originally designed to achieve precision-based sniping with light-mass componential particle acceleration. The overall effect of the weapon is impressive, accurately firing a collection of hard light particles toward a target at incredible speed.

From this description we can infer that the LR is intended to be an accurate weapon that is effective at long range.
