What's The Current State Of Halo 5: Guardians?

I bought H5 when it came out and I’ve only beat the campaign on heroic and that was it. I’ve been gone (according to my last campaign save game) for 563 days and since I’ve decided to make a return, I’m curious as to where the game stands in the eyes of the community.

Well if all you did is beat the campaign you really won’t have a frame of reference. But multiplayer has grown by leaps and bounds since then. Population isn’t huge but it was holding a steady place on Xbox store most played.

  • Much improved but much too late - Ranks, custom browser, forge, HCS settings, playlist variety all a step up to varying degrees… but glitchy menus/servers/firefight have not been addressed, and many playlists are still using outdated & unbalanced launch settings - Low population leads to most of the issues in matchmaking due to lack of ability for it to find a balanced match or close server - Casual players still think it’s too fast paced/hectic/random and blame competitive players for this - Competitive players still think it’s too fast paced/hectic/random and blame casual players for thisI dunno, I still find it fun. There’s lots of room for improvement but the game itself is still way better than it was at launch, it’s just the population that can make it a bit of a struggle.

Well there is a lot of new REQs added to the game.

Aside from lowered interest in the game, there are two things going on at the moment:

I never really understand these threads. You want to know what the community thinks of the game, but all you have to do is read the forums to do that.

It’s such a broad question. I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

The current state of my game is still playing pretty close to everyday. I took a break over the summer (which I regret since I missed getting that one Arena medal), but getting back into it with enthusiasm. I look forward to the next Content Update, and will continue to work on reaching some personal goals before Halo 6 comes out.

I totally agree, 100%

Same. I can complain about H5 a lot but can’t stop playing it either. It’s a love-hate relationship, but I keep playing it. Can’t put my finger on it

This game’s population is fairly low, but I still find myself actively playing the game despite the problems it has. The playerbase can get really annoying at times (especially when the mute option randomly doesn’t work half the time) but at least it’s not as toxic as Overwatch. Overall, the game has its fair share of issues but I still play it frequently.

mp good also some noobs

Its at the stage where I find Social/Ranked very stale atm, but the Weekly playlist is great, but whats the point of it really

This is just in my own opinion, some people may agree with me, some others might not

(And some people might get what I mean as well)

I don’t hate Halo 5, Its not that bad, tbh it does have its moments and that, but its fun in its own way

This is so funny, and a little sad, because it’s true. But it also begs the question of who benefits from the game’s pace more, competitive or casual?

The majority of the population base is casual so it makes no sense to change an entire games dynamics just to cater to a small minority. Hence why the games population is so low. 343 doesn’t understand basic business concepts. You have to give the people what they want if you want to get money from them.

Truer words have never been spoken.

But why? If you’re looking to get back into Halo 5 after a long hiatus, don’t let the opinions of “the community” influence your enjoyment of the game. You should jump back in, see what’s new, and form your own opinions about it.

To be honest, I don’t even think you can give a meaningful answer to this question because “the community” isn’t unified enough to even share the same opinion of it. Since I am just one person, I can tell you my own opinion, if you want it: Halo 5 has improved significantly since launch and Warzone Firefight is still fun. But that’s just my opinion.

I love this. Yes indeed there are some noobs who play Halo 5. Just some of them, though. In other breaking news, Halo 5 is a video game.

I should’ve elaborated a bit more, my memory is vague but I know right after the campaign I began to explore what else the game had to offer and I remember it being really lacking. I didn’t play multiplayer because I couldn’t really get into H4’s multiplayer so I didn’t bother. My disappointment in forge is what prompted my exit and as I’m reading the comments, it appears H5 didn’t even launch with forge! I must be thinking of H4 bare bones forge mode.

Like I said, my memory is a bit cloudy but for some reason I find myself combining H4 and H5 into one game that left me disappointed.

the first few pages on the forum dont really give me a since of what has been added or improved and requires alot of reading between the lines as to what people are talking about. I’m sure if I searched more through the vast amount of forum posts, I’d find my answer but digging through the forum is not my cup of tea. Especially since I’m doing it all via mobile.

This way is faster, straight forward, and I get to weigh and respond to people’s opinions without bringing an old thread back from the dead.

Well I’m very interested in other people’s opinions about the game, I dont read these opinions to gauge my enjoyment of the game but more for context as to where the game (and in some ways the community) stands. I will love or hate the H5 on my own terms.

Halo 5’s forge is awesome and worth the wait, if you ask me. Try the weapon glitch :smile_cat:

I see. But it’s hard to say. There are some easily identifiable general consensuses (most people seem to agree split-screen needs to come back, for example) but it seems to be a divided community about a lot of things. But, I think it’s fun. If you want “competitive” there’s HCS whatever, and if you want “casual” there’s Warzone Firefight and Super Fiesta.

Your post feels like it sums up the state of the game perfectly. And since I see that there will be no more updates, this is how the game will be now and until the end of time. Kinda sad really.

You must be new to Halo if you stayed away from multiplayer because of the last Halo game. Each Halo game has played different from the last in multiplayer. H5 multiplayer is A LOT different from H4.

Totally agreed, one thing they really nailed was forge this time around.
Some people complained about the controls at launch of course, but if you’re open minded, it makes a lot more sense this way & it’s really easy to use, with a ton of capability.
It’s just a shame that most of the great forgers have moved on, since the game was so slow to actually be completed after launch, and none of the default settings have been tweaked to address the balancing & pacing issues.

Not exactly… there’s no more content updates but they are working on a huge weapon balancing update that can very well end up changing how the game feels in a number of ways.
Plus, there’s constantly new rotational playlists with unique settings to mix things up, and they could always decide to finally bring in good forge maps to regular playlists.
None of those things require a content update, that’s a separate thing.

Also, I don’t think people realise just how much of a difference the new radar makes all on its own. Even if you play with all other settings staying the same, it changes the “intelligence” of gameplay significantly.
The increased range and lack of walking players showing up, makes it so that thoughtless gameplay draws attention, finally presenting some form of negative to balance all the benefits of forward movement.
You can still make aggressive plays, they just have to be made smart & at the appropriate time, or else you’re gonna have every enemy on the map gunning for you.
Unfortunately, I’m not so sure they’re going to make it the default, as most players seem unwilling to give it a chance, despite also not being satisfied with the original radar

And yet he did not speak them. Don’t change a members quote and comment on it to try and pawn it off like you didn’t change it. Not cool man. The way he/she said it was much better.
