The war games Map Pass is this package deal you buy to get the Crimson, Majestic, and Castle map packs at a discounted price. As a bonus you gain access to the exclusive Scanner and Strider helmets.

I think you’re wrong.
I remember some confusion at the time of Castle Map Pack’s release due to the way it was worded about it being part of the War Games Map Pass too (which comes with the Strider & Scanner helmets in addition to other things).
People mis-took it to mean the Castle DLC came with the helmets but it didn’t.
You only get Scanner if you got the Map Pass.

IMO, it looks like a sniper helmet, and looks cool. Shame we can’t take off the scanner part.
Definitely Scanner.
In my opinion, it looks like the UNSC decided it was a good idea to attach a VCR to whatever the helmet was before.
I dub it the “VCR Helemt”.
No offense to those who wear it. I just find it kinda weird, that’s all.
