I came across the thread a lot regarding the armor in Halo 5, and a lot of people say that the armor looks plastic.
What’s so plastic about it? I thought it had the look of metal. Was it the shiny texture that made it look like it was made out of plastic?
I’m a bit confused as to why some people would say that the armor looks “plastic”.
I’d like to see fully-rendered, in-game comparisons between Reach and Halo 5 armor before I make any judgements.
EDIT:
Just look at this picture. I see dirt, scratches, faded paint, and wear around the edges. I have no idea what everyone is going on about. Looks like metal to me.

A lot of those threads were during the beta where 343 hadn’t finished the armour textures. Unless these were recent threads in which case ‘shrug’.
I think most are actually referring to the seemingly super short time to kill. Could be wrong but that’s how I’ve been interpreting it.
I have seen a huge range of recent mentionings of the “plastic looking suits” but those comments usually pop up as some kind of argument fall back in an anti-sprint evolved into hate 343i for evolving development thread.
I don’t see the issue, personally.
In Bungies Halo games, each piece of armour was unique and definable. You can barely tell most of 343’s messy armour apart.
I don’t know, the whole game feels really plastic to me, like the whole design, sounds and architecture in general. I really think of playing less in an distant universe than a lego toybox.

The TTK is almost the same as Halo CE. Not that fast.
It’s the art styling used in the armour. When you see your Spartan at the start / end of MP games the Spartans look like cartoons not supposed real-life super soldiers. It’s more the MP maps created in forge, which most of the triple AAA game Halo 5 has used. No detailing, just plastic looking shapes stuck together.
I think it’s because the armor slightly glows, and metal doesn’t really glow. If you walk in a shadow, you will see that it doesn’t affect you.
If you look at reaches armour you can tell its battle worn, its scars show and you can tell. I had to look closely on the picture you provided to see the wear and tear. Also the colours are too vibrant and seem like the armour was printed, no painted.
You can google the different art of each game for yourself but to me it looks too plastic for my taste. I would like to see Halo 6 with a grittier art style.

It would be a much better comparison if you used two armors with the same color.

Why are you comparing chief’s armor to a multi-player Spartan? Of course chief is gonna look much grittier

Halo 4 MP I was hoping to just put a few links and say “you can google the different art for yourself” and people could make their own comparisons. But here is a better one.

I do agree 5’s Spartan could be a little more worn, but I’d rather their blue be more like halo 4’s instead of being so damn dark blue in 5
The otherworldly glow in 343’s games really is the main culprit. The Reach image in that comparison just looked SO much more real, it was matte instead of this odd shiny neon that colors in H5 have.
Also, some of the incredibly weak and “crunchy” sounds in this game contribute to the feeling of plastic. Compare H5 Assassination/Melee sounds to H:Reach Assassinations/Melee sounds.
