What's so bad about Halo 3.5?

I like Halo 5, I really do. I’ve put tons and tons of time into this game and I genuinely like it. I like Arena (except for breakout) Warzone is a lot of fun (could be a lot more fun). I think for the record I should mention I do prefer a more classic Halo game. Without all the gimmicky thrust jumps and clambering and sprint, I like gold old fashioned Halo 3 BR fights. I understand a lot of the Halo 5 fan base doesn’t though. They often use the argument “We don’t want a Halo 3.5”. My question is why? Again I want to reiterate that I enjoy Halo 5, it’s a fun game, but not the series best (of course my opinion and just based on how many copies were sold). But why so against Halo 3.5? Halo 3 was arguably when Halo was at its prime. It was when Halo saw some of its highest player activity. It was the first game to go toe to toe with Call Of Duty, almost unheard of in the FPS genre. Halo 3 took what made Halo 2 great and added in to it. I will admit, it’s nice having a utility pistol but I was never really that much of a fan. Halo 3 was definitely one of the more popular times for Halo MLG, and had one of the best campaigns of the franchise. Again, I enjoy Halo 5 a lot. I jut want to know why it seems everyone else seems to not want a game modeled after one of the most successful titles of the franchise. Why are people so against a Halo 3.5?

Most people don’t want a game that is too similar to another one. No one likes repetitiveness.

We say that but again, Halo 3 just took what Halo 2 had and added a little more and everyone loved it. COD sales are still sky high and they haven’t changed the game that much in years. Take Halo 3, innovate a bit with it and see what happens there.

I’m probably not the guy you want answering this lol but I’ll persevere. I almost quit Halo 3 on day one when it didn’t have sprint. I felt like a slug. So go ahead, roast me lol. Halo 3 also had my least favorite br because of the projectiles that couldn’t always be controlled. Plus the netcode. Poorly balanced weapons samdbox… Ok I’ll stop now.

Also, in response to the post above me a lot of the COD fan base are mad about COD direction. A lot hate the sci fi setting, the wall running, weapon balancing, new perks, etc. Theyre just as outspoken about the franchise direction as Halo fans.

I get a lot of people like sprint but it isn’t a needed feature. I know it feels faster but halo isn’t necessarily any faster. Matches still last around 12-15 minutes and the maps have just been made bigger to compensate. As for cod, despite the displeasure with the new direction it still sells incredibly well.

hopefully we get a halo 3 anniversary.

The thing is that halo 3 is not like other games today, and would have no new players coming. Today, many people want a fast paced game but halo 3 really doesn’t deliver fast paced gameplay. We’ve already had halo 3, we want something new. Luckily for you, halo 3A should be coming out in 2017.

Halo 3 as good as it was wouldn’t sell nearly as good as it did back when, you know why? Because people would complain about all the stuff it doesn’t have that halo has evolved in the years.

Said no COD fan. . … ever

I wish they would offer both styles. There’s no classic playlist and that is disappointing.

Just a thought, why not create a gamemode that simulates Halo 3’s gameplay and round up some players then duke out a few matches?

It may not add speed to the game, but it makes encounters more dynamic and interesting. There’s less “I shot you first thus I win” in my opinion. On the subject of not being needed, neither are medals, assassinations, the announcer, etc.

And yet Halo 5 is very similar, in terms of gameplay, to other shooters. I’d rather a game be too similar to another within the same franchise than to be trying to copy completely different games.

Because then it would be similar to Halo 3. That’s a bad thing to me.

Agreed, on both CoD and halo 3 haha, they just wished they had joined the halo movement sooner haha

Halo 5 is closer to halo 3 than other shooters today. If there is a scale with halo 3 on one end and CoD on the other, Halo 5 would be a bit closer to halo 3, not by a big margin though. It’s similar in that there are more movement options and ADS, but that’s about it.

I’m somewhat neutral on the idea which halo is better. I love classic halo and I love current halo as well. I still see classic halo in the newer games as well. What I will question though is how will a halo “3.5” change anything? People bring up h3 being the peak (by the way OP, it was CoD chasing halo, not halo having to rival CoD back then) of the franchise but why do people think if we go back that route that halo will be like it was then? Sooooo much has changed. Gamers mindset, company mindset, the technology that enables much more and complex features, ect ect. Halo back then was special because of what it was, however CoD overtook it eventually because the people changed, not the game. People want those easier (twitch shooters), faster paced games. While halo has in a sense gone faster paced the ttk and slower pace (it’s slower if you compare it to a CoD or battlefield game) still makes it different than other games. I’d even argue old halo isn’t as popular due to many reasons. We could bring it back but I fail to see what it’d do personally. I’d also argue it’d stir up the storm even further if people are really upset about halos brand.

In the end I see halo continuing on its current path as I think the devs have the same mindset I do, if they were to go back then they’d have to restart all over after the progress they’ve already made while also risking the halo brand even further if they were to mess it up or if going old school were to backfire (there’s just no guarantee to it) Have to remember it’s human nature that not everyone likes change, that includes the devs as well.

Wait, what?
Is this supposed to be a joke? Sprint does the exact opposite of what you claim. The gameplay is far less dynamic than before because you can only run or shoot instead of both at the same time. Also it is precisely because of sprint that there is so much “first shot wins” gameplay, as TTK needed to be lowered to accommodate the mechanic. Dropping out of sprint also has a delay, so you lose even more time when you try to retaliate. All of this combined severely hinders reversals in duels.

And that’s what I mean by gameplay. The way you move around maps and aiming. None of the new movement mechanics nor the ADS remind me of Halo 3 or any Halo to he honest.

Halo 5 is closer to modern shooters than it is to any Halo besides Halo 4.

h5 actually has the most ‘I shot you first thus I win’ scenarios.
