What's missing from Halo 5?

Aaaaah.

well, I posted a thread a few months ago as a Halo 3 player who was about to get an xbox one after a year or two out of the Halo world.

I played Halo 3 a lot and loved it and was pretty good.

My thread was basically asking people would I still be able to maintain that level of skill I had in H3 or would I suffer in this foreign world?

A few month later i have my answer, I play FFA and i’m Diamond 4 working my way to Onyx, I think that’s an okay rank (please tell me if that sucks I was a 50 in H3).

but, yeah. I’m enjoying Halo 5, it’s took some time to get used to but I’m doing okay but I can’t help but feel underwhelmed by this ranking system. It’s slow, grinding and unforgiving.

i’m sure fans of this game are sick of people nostalgically moaning on about Halo 3 but that ranking system was the best, you actually felt like you were earning something.

When Halo 6 comes, I feel a 1-50 TRUE SKILL ranking system will bring out the best in the series. Yeah, A Halo 3 anniversary would be nice, but i say make a Halo 6 which is BETTER than H3 was (if possible)

what do you think?

When I saw the thread title, I was all ready to say SPLIT-SCREEN, but it looks like you’re talking about ranking systems or something

Aside from the ineptitude of the placement matches and me somehow matching with a gold 5 as an onyx which is more to do with population, I don’t really see how 1-50 is better than the current system. If you win a few games you rank from diamond 1-2 (example) which was pretty much the same as the old system of ranking up. Of course, naming conventions for ranks could be a bit more unique to Halo like the reach ranks rather than just straight up ripped from league of legends.

What’s missing from halo 5?
The same thing that was missing from halo 4.

My favorite armor, classic CQB! (halo 3)
“Give me back my face!” -Rorschach.

Splitscreen, playable elites, blood and gore, regional server selection, a decent btb ie 24v24, ODST / Reach style firefight, full armour customisation, emblem design etc etc.

Other than playable elites, a certain amount of blood and gore. If they have the rest for H6 ill forgive them

50+ = Onyx/Champion
40-49 = Diamond
30-39 = Platinum
20-29 = Gold
10-19 = Silver
0-9 = Bronze

To describe H5’s system as unforgiving, slow & grinding, especially compared to H3, is quite funny.
Unforgiving… Perhaps. Players can get into downward spirals of bad matchups that can be “easily” reset by teaming up.
Slow & grinding??? When you place after 10 matches and then rise relative to your matchup success?

Come now, you can’t say that AND then praise H3’s system that;

  1. Had a way to cap players before reaching 50. “Level locked” is a real term in Halo3.
  2. Started you off at 0 and asked you climb through it all.
  3. Could avoid all that by boosting.

1-50 or metal/colour coded, won’t matter what you call if that’s how you describe it. Halo2 has a 1-50 system that is completely different than H3’s 1-50… A 50 in H2 means you’re the Moon or a ring! A 50 in H3 means you could be a “general”.

And on that, I would take H2’s ranking mechanics over H3’s.

However, what I’d really like is to have less all-the-time rankings, just 2-4 constant ranking playlists, and then have 2-week ranking sprints roll through the playlists. That way it’s not always “sweaty”.
That way, even the most hardcore players, can find rolling places of relaxation, and not-so hardcore players can’t always avoid being tested. Currently, it’s all too serious, not enough fun.

You can’t rank down though, once u hit a set rank u could lost 50 in a row and still be a diamond

I hate this ranking system I went 9 and 1 one time and got put into a low diamond or high platinum one time,I feel like 9 and 1 or 10 and 0 deserves an onyx rank, but that’s me

Thanks for the reply my friend, very insightful!

Has to be elites for me.

What’s missing in Halo 5 let’s see:
-Splitscreen
-KoTH
-Oddball
-PERMANENT Team Snipers
-Full armour customization
-Emblem system from previous Halos
-BTB Heavies
-Playable Elites

Just typing this list judging from the title.

Just curious cause I never played the original halo 2 or halo 3, how did the ranking systems in those two differ?

Permanent playlists missing

  • Team snipers (arena maps and not BTB maps) - Multi team (I love unranked because I can go into arena without having to sweat against Champ and Onyx players) - Super fiesta (Most casual playlist (We need more super casual playlists) - Turbo (Kind of splits the warzone community but it is fun for a while until you realize that you have used all your reqs)Feel free to add to my list of permanent playlist needs if I am forgetting anything
