What's gonna be the file size?

At first glance this doesn’t sound important, but when you think about it it really is.

For example I barely have space for MCC on my laptop, and if infinite has a bigger file size than MCC I may not even be able to fit it.

Secondly think of all the Xbox series S players. With the 500gb SSD, it’s extremely easy to fill it up. Some players may even end up deleting it in favor of other games. There are many games I’ve deleted even though I like them, simply because it’s extremely inconvenient barely having anything to play because I don’t have space.

And thirdly, having a large download size may keep new players from coming into the game. I have a couple friends who got a free trial for game pass PC, and I convinced them to download MCC, but they deleted it before completing even one campaign because of how much space it took.

Big file sizes is a huge problem for the game industry right now, and the fact that game devs don’t seem to care is scary. The moment I saw that stalker 2 had a file size of 150GB, i got scared that that might be a standard for all games.

Please 343, don’t take the COD route of making your games 200GB. You will turn away a big chunk of your playerbase by doing so.

They’ve been working on the game for years and built the engine from scratch. With 4k graphics it will be a massive download.

People are not ready for these download sizes to dramatically increase. Game sizes for the 360 used to be like 6-7 GBs and the Xbox One has games 100+ GBs. I am sure the F2P can be downloaded by itself though.

there should be an option to download ultra graphics as an extra, sorta like AOEII:DE or modern warfare.

Yeah. I’m guessing 80-100GB for the campaign and multiplayer at launch.

Even if the new engine is designed to minimise file sizes, I doubt it would make a dent in the overall increased cost of higher fidelity graphics, enhance physics mechanics, more dynamic lighting systems, and not to mention the sheer amount of files the game will have.

Credit to 343 though for future proofing for this with the MCC, with the ability to toggle individual campaigns and multiplayers.
Did you notice in the announcement that the title cards for the campaign an multiplayer were side by side, as if they were individual games?
I think they will fiction as seperate games on your device, which also facilitates with the MP being F2P (and the campaign not), and whether or not you want either taking up space on your drive.

As the campaign gets updates over the 10 year plan, it too will likely have an MCC style system allowing you to toggle which campaign expansions you want on at any given time.
With the multiplayer, I don’t think the rate of increase will be great enough for them to segregate it in the same way.

Though by the end of the plan, to have everything downloaded, you could be looking at upwards of 400GB.

series s players shaking in fear

I’m guessing 117GB.

Random guess I’d say would be between 70 to 90gb just from scope of what they’re trying to do.

I think 80 - 100 GBs for campaign and 50 - 70 GBs for multiplayer. We are moving to an open world with the need of many more textures and multiplayer will probably have Forge attached.

Probably 100GB or more.

depending on which console you’ll play (current-gen vs next-gen) and how much … “stuff” will be included in the MP at launch
I’d think everything’s possible between 50GB-150GB.

I feel like campaign is going to be bigger. I’d guess like 80ish GB to about 100GB.

I feel like MP will be smaller. Something between 40GB and 60GB.

For you and your friend on MCC, if file size is an issue, they literally have file select and modular installs. Only install the parts of the games you want to play. Download one campaign at a time and then the next and so on. I believe they have each game broke down to campaign and MP options for download. It could be even more granular than that if the game has Firefight or something else too.

Not trying to be rude, but unfortunately you don’t have the luxury to have the entire game installed and while it is more hassle to go about it this way, it’s better than a total uninstall/re-install of each game or having to clear a huge block for storage. I would recommend if storage is that tight, try putting away like $5 a month if possible and by an external harddrive solution in a few months. Obviously the more you save, the quicker you’ll get it. You can get like a 1TB HDD for like $60 or less now.

Tbf people overestimate the size of open world games. A big world=/= big file size. There’s not a lot of individual models and textures, it’s the same tree assets and grass textures all over. It’s got more to do with the quality than the space taken in the world

I think it will be between 60Gb to 30Gb without campaign.

People underestimate next gen file sizes in general.

I reckon Halo Infinite is going to be a similar size to that of Halo 5 as of this moment. A bit bigger potentially, but the multiplayer and Campaign will be separate so if you need to you can download one over the other. I feel the campaign is gonna be fairly sizeable.

I could see it at 100GB for the Series X with all the 4k textures n stuff.
